How to ask bridesmaids

Sian, 10 February, 2021 at 12:14 Posted on Planning 0 11
Hello
I am thinking about asking 3 of my close friends to be my bridesmaids but I am wondering how some of you have gone about asking ?
Is it expected to gift a big box of gift? If so what should I be adding ? Thanks ?

Personally I just asked in person where possible and over the phone for my MOH as due to lockdown I couldn’t get up to Liverpool from London.

Everyone was happy (as was I went asked in that manner to be a BM). I don’t really understand the elaborate proposal but to each their own.

I would have asked mine in person, but due to lockdown I sent little handmade cards.

I know right. To be honest it was lovely telling the 3 of them why I wanted them in my bridal party. I told them individually so we also had a nice natter.

For our flower girl and ring bearer (my little cousins) we told them in person as we were visiting anyway. You really don’t need some elaborate/expensive event to make the ask meaningful.

I think just asking them is fine. I only have 2 bridesmaids so got them a little box of things off Etsy just to make it a bit more special. It didn't cost a great deal and I was lucky enough to be able to give it to them when restrictions were eased last year.

There's nothing wrong with giving them a gift if you want to, but do remember that the 'bridesmaid proposal' gifts are designed by people who are trying to part you with your money! A phone call, email or card is all that is necessary.

I just called mine (my two best friends), then sent them a card each with a note in afterwards. I've not felt the need to send them a gift, but I think that is a personal choice.

I think sending a card or letter is a nice, touching way to ask and gives them a momento that they can keep with all the lovely things you've said about them.

I tried to make it a little special. I organised brunch (in the summer) for my birthday and announced it then. Made them handmade cards and gave a small bottle of prosecco.

I did a gift box for my best friend and my sister.

Admittedly I went a little overboard with them both.
