how to clean satin shoes - any ideas please?

Ayla, 2 November, 2008 at 08:26 Posted on Planning 0 5

Wore a pair of Rainbow Ivory satin shoes and of course, with the current weather, they are now somewhat dirty and have the odd 'grass' mark too. Does anyone know how I could clean them up please - or should I just discard them? I wore them as a bridesmaid last weekend and would ideally like to keep them to wear with the same dress (hyacinth blue Coast dress with ivory sash). Any help much appreciated. Thanks

Try rubbing them with white bread - I'm not sure if it will get the grass stains out, but its great for getting the mud out! My wedding shoes are ones I wore as a bridesmaid 3 times, and thats how I cleaned them!

I've used stain remover wipes before (I think Oxy do them) and they got the majority of stins off a pair of ivory satin shoes.

    Bread???? wow!

I worked in a bridal shoe shop and though I cannot remember the solution used the trick was to use a piece of satin to clean them with as the fibres of the fabric wont screw up that way, so if you can raid a haberdasherys remnant bin.....

Hi I have heard of using white bread to get marks off wallpaper, so the idea of using on fabric sort-of follows. I will try on the underside of the heel first with this. I think I have an old satin handkie too and will make a weak solution of an oxy- stain remover and have a go too FInger crossed! Will report back on my success. Thanks to everyone!
