How to display my shop bought wedding cake

charlie_rabbit01, 8 April, 2015 at 16:03 Posted on Planning 0 11

OH and I are on a budget and refuse to pay for "wedding cake" especially since the cake we like can be bought at Tesco for £10.

We are buying 2 to ensure enough to go round but i'm not sure how to display them. They come on square silver cake boards, any ideas?

anyone else buying their own cake this way?

I had that exact cake for my birthday once, and then took the rest in to work to get finished off by the girls in the office and we all agreed it was the nicest cake we had - very good choice!
You can get fairly cheap cake stands, or maybe your venue will have one you can borrow.

Sorry I wasn't much help - I just got very excited when I saw your cake haha

My OH had it for his birthday (well the smaller version) and it was really nice, I'd considered making it myself but I know it'd be disappointing if it wasn't as nice plus not sure i'd need that kind of stress pre-wedding!

Are you following a particular look or theme for your wedding? We're having a dessert table with cakes and things on logs of differing heights (Something like this, from pinterest)

Mu suggestion is similar to ones above, use a cake stand maybe and use some decorations such as flowers to match the cake or your theme?

We are seeing a cake maker this week to taste some cakes (best day ever!!) however we are contemplating just having one nice cake off her and buying some cakes like this. They'll be round the back though and cut up so no one will know! could be an option? But i dunno how much, i can report back once i've been. Think we were just gonna have a nicely decorated cake for show Smiley smile

There are a lot of fantastic ideas out there, depending on what theme you are using.

I do love the wooden tree trunk ones above.

However you can display the cake with a lot of different elements - i.e. decorating and venues will have different cake stands on offer if that is what you want, that they will rent out or being your venue, will offer you for free in some packages. There are some for around £20 too that are available online

Put it on a cake table on its own and have a cake topper that is inkeeping with your style, or edible decorations which are fairly cost effective and will take away the familiarity of the cake from Tesco shoppers.

    Edible decorations include:

Also you can have a cake topper that departs from the norm, and if brave with a coathanger and heart beads and will also match the red element of the cake:

One of the main parts is the table which you can decorate with a tablecloth and swath of cloth in your theme/colour and have some gem confetti around it which is not unlike the edible ones above.

    That cake is so yum.

A search for cake stand came up with lots of options.

or go to a cake supply shop they I'm ssure will have lots.

also make sure you have somebody planned to deal with this before the day X

No ideas here, sorry but I wanted to say- YES. Gorgeous cakes!! Saving yourself hundreds and nobody would ever know... I hate wedding premiums, that cake would cost a fortune if you had it made!

I enquired at a couple of places just for the convenience of having some one else deal with the cake and for 1 cake to serve 20 people (single tier) was £75 (best price).
