How to find your nearest post box?

Lili Donkey, 7 November, 2008 at 13:51 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 11

I need to go and post a letter but I've no idea where the nearest post box is - stupid I know but we're usually in the car so it isn't an issue...

I thought the Royal Mail website might let me search for my nearest but I can't find anything online.

I can think of 2 but both are at least 2 miles away and really don't fancy a 4 mile walk this afternoon and H is away with the car until Sunday.

Help!

Thanks - tried that already but nothing comes up ☹️

I hadn't thought of calling the post office to be fair...

Nick, I'm being needy - H is away visiting the Doctor Who set and I'm all home alone. I hate being home alone, in the middle of nowhere although I impressed myself this morning, I got on a bus ?

I went to visit Ruthann, I was so impressed with myself - we've lived here 4 years and I've been out on my own twice, minus getting a taxi to and from the station every now and then. Have to say though, £2.20 to go 10 minutes up the road and the bus driver was a miserable git - I was trying to explain where I needed to know and he got the right hump with me!

You're lucky though, I considered posting yesterday to ask what I should have for dinner tonight but found a GR recipe that will do ?

Are you serious? You never leave the house unless it's with your husband? I'd go out of my mind, let alone not be able to work if I did that. ?

In my experience bus drivers are very short tempered if you don't know the bus route.

I very rarely use the bus as I have a car and the bus where I live is very infrequent, liable to be cancelled and only goes to one place.

I've used it once, and didn't know the name of the stop I needed but knew it was on a particular road and the landmarks near it. The bus driver claimed to not know where I meant, but took my money anyway. When we got to the near edge of the town I needed, he stopped the bus, waited for a bit, then turned round and told me to get off as I hadn't paid any further - I was still 2 miles away from where I needed to be and already late for work ?

I also want to know about this "been out on my own twice" thing. Possibly the most bizarre thing I've ever read on here.

? of course I've been out on my own - I go to London everyday to work! What I meant was that H usually drops me off at the station or anywhere else I need to go...

I'm not that odd, I don't sit indoors on my own all day!

We live in a converted school in the middle of a field, surrounded by other fields. The bus service runs about once every 40 minutes but only for part of the day so generally speaking if H isn't around I stay indoors. If H is away work fund a taxi to and from the station same as if I work late and H can't pick me up from the station, work fund a taxi.

There isn't anywhere to walk to, the station is about 3 miles away - our local pub is 2.5 miles etc. We do have a shop 10 minutes away but to get to it I have to walk along a bridle path which is very over grown and alongside fast cars and I'm a scardy cat...

That said I've just had a nice walk along it, for the second/third time today - it's all been cut back and the path has been laid with tarmac so I might venture out more often...

Lilli I'm trying to picture where you live, I was at Ruthann's last week and my sat nav took me through fields and fields in Mountbassing (sp?) I hated it in my car, let alone if I were walking.

You're lucky work offer to cover the cost of taxi's! My company would tell me where to stick it ?

KB3, we're pretty much in-between their old house and new house - by car we're no more than 10 mins away from Ruthann but without a car it's almost impossible to go anywhere around here!

I am very lucky with work, our expenses accounts are very generous but I have a feeling they will be cut back big time next year so I might have to stop being a wuss and start driving the car.

Next time you come over I'll have to join you ?
