humanist and civil ceremony on the same day...help!

Big Apple, 18 April, 2011 at 21:57 Posted on Planning 0

Hi everyone (Hitched virgin here!!)

we're getting married on the day of our 12 year anniversary in 2013. we very much want, and will have(!!), a humanist ceremony but we also want to be legally married on the same day, its not only the date of our first date but the date of our engagement, just a little bit special as you can imagine!! we don't want our marriage certificate to say another date!

has anyone got any experience of this, or how it could logistially work etc? We're getting married in the north west of england and can't get married in scotland!

thanks

We were going to do something similar so we could have our wedding outdoors. The (albeit vague) plan was to have the legal ceremony at a registry office first thing in the morning with the two witnesses, the travel over to our outdoor venue (preferably a lovely beach in Cornwall) for our humanist ceremony.

If you plan your humanist ceremony for the afternoon and can get an early morning slot with the registrar, it's very feasible to work it all out. You don't NEED to get dressed up for the registrar and you don't NEED anyone other than your other half and two witnesses. Think of it just as 'going to do the paperwork before the wedding' and the actual ceremony part will be the humanist bit later in the day.
