hunt to find the perfect barn wedding venue anywhere in the country

suzjackson, 25 October, 2009 at 08:47 Posted on Planning 0 21

Hi my fiance proposed only last Saturday but we are already on the hunt for the perfect venue, we have decided that a romantic barn setting with old fashioned beams and lots of fairy lighting and log fires is the venue for us, however we are having no luck finding the 'perfect setting'.

We live near cheshire but have only found The Barn, Sandyhole barn and Rivington barn around our vacinity, none of these tick all the boxes as we really want accomodation for all guests close by. We are looking for the perfect venue anywhere in the Uk so long as it has accomodation close by and has the classic beams and if possible some sort of courtyard.

I would be really grateful of any advice as trawling through the venues on hitched and find my venue is becoming tedious and not proving a success.

Thanks so much

Suz x

Hi Suz, congratulations on your engagement.

Have you looked at Moels Hall Tithe Barn in Southport? http://www.meolshall.com/tithe_barn.htm

I've not seen it for real but it looks great in the pictures

Hi there thanks I'll have a look at that one and let you know, I think my problem is I've got such a clear idea in my head of what I want and I don't even know if it actually exists. God help me when I come to finding a dress!!!

I've been to a wedding there (reception only) and it's a beautiful venue! Also I think the couple were able to take their own wine with no corkage charges. I also remember the wedding planner there being v. helpful.

We are having a barn wedding but all the way down south on the Suffolk / Essex border so probably a bit far for you!

Our venue is a barn type and similar to your description, but it's in Kent so not sure if you'd want to travel that far? Just thought I'd post on the off chance though, seeing as your title says "anywhere in the country" here's the link: https://www.coolingcastlebarn.com/

If you're not fussed about distance, have a look at the Manor Barn in Buriton (Hampshire) www.themanorbarn.co.uk . It's beautiful, in a village with accommodation in the pubs, has a courtyard between the barn and manor house, and the bride gets ready in the house itself. Oh, and it has permanent fairy lights on the pillar beams!! The other one that's lovely, although a lot smaller, is Old Luxters Barn in Buckinghamshire www.oldluxtersbarn.co.uk . It's a bit more out in the sticks, but there are loads of hotels nearby within a short taxi ride. My brother got married there and it was lovely too.

Well if anywhere in the country is an option I can recommend Preston Priory Barn near a tiny little village called Preston St Mary in Suffolk, which is were we had our reception (you can also get married there as they have a license). It is has gorgoeus gardens, a courtyard and is a real wooden beamed barn (we had fairy lights too) - no fireplaces, it is a real barn. The owner is so lovely and helpful. There are also no corkage fees. When we booked they had a special deal if you got married in April / May. There are quite a few accomodation options nearby in the surrounding villages of Lavenham, Long Melford, Sudbury etc. If you google it , should come up. To be honest though it does look better in the flesh. We live overseas so I hadn't seen it when we booked (parents had checked it out though), when we came back for the actual wedding it was better than I had even thought.

There is also another barn in the area, Smeetham Hall. Not been but seen it on the website when we were looking and it looks gorgeous.

    Good luck!

We went to the best ever wedding last year in a barn in the Peak District. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it (or use it ourselves if we weren't looking at getting married in January! It was a gorgeous summers day last year so we ate on tables outside and at night they had the band in the barn and candles/fires outside. Was lovely but this is the only thing I could find and it really doesn't do it justice https://www.shattonhall.com

One of my favourite venues over the years has been the Old Priory Barn at Little Wymondley near to Stevenage. I say great due to a really good big barn venue with good grounds and most importantly, fantastic staff who go that "extra mile". Accomodation is a little bit limited. although within a very short taxi ride(less than a mile) you have two good places for guest accomodation.

Try Vaulty Manor in Essex www.vaultymanor.co.uk, I think that it pretty much ticks all of those boxes except the log fire...

I second Cooling Castle Barn!! I went to a wedding there almost 2 weeks ago!! It was beautiful, the setting, the barns, all the detail, the room for the wedding breakfast and the evening!! We stayed overnight and our room was gorgeous too. One of the most gorgeous weddings I've been to.

    Hi

Not sure if these are any use to you will depend if you want to travel but these are thress in the cotswolds that I know of and have seen all are lovely

The Great Tithe Barn in Tetbury

    http://www.gtb.co.uk/weddinggtb.php

it has some holiday cottages on site that you can rent to stay in and Tetbury it's self has pleanty of places to stay

    in a similar vein is

Cripps Barn near Cirencester bit smaller than the first venue and no on site accomadation as I recall vut there is pleanty near by.

    http://www.crippsbarn.com/weddings.asp

Then there is a place called Kingscote Barn

    near Tetbury and dursley

This is my favourite (It's my wedding venue so I am biased). Its a stunning building and location there is a cotttage on site you can rent and a couple of rooms you can rent on the night of your wedding, but there are pleanty of places near by people can stay

We've just booked our wedding there and its lovely. it has the old wooden beams, fairy lights and you even eat you meal in a room called the pig stys which has the old pig troughs and pens still there. It has 15 rooms in the hotel but has a campsite and caravan site too and it is near east midlands airport so it has all the airport hotels near it too.
