I have an eye lash growing inside my eye lid

monkey fingers, 24 January, 2009 at 22:38 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 5

And it is very annoying.

I am not sure what to do about it, it is making my eye quite sore and my contact lenses feel very uncomfortable.

I can't pluck it as it is too sore and I don't trust myself that close to my eye with some tweezers.

Do I need to see a dr? Mr MF thinks so, but I don't think there is anything a doctor can do, and I'd feel silly making an appointment about 'a' hair.

Has anyone else had this? how did you make it better?

Thank you in advance

mf xx

I'd go see a doctor - I'd have thought it was intensely irritating and painful. Poor you. ?

It is very annoying, it's ok if I sit pulling my eyelid away from the eye, but that isn't the most practical soloution!

Thank you, will make an appontment with her, at least it will be novel for her to be looking at something 'up the other end' on me!

Turn up at W or S A&E (I forget which has an A&E!) - try to get a referral up to the eye hospital if you are worried - they are the mutts nuts up there! They sorted out my contact lense / infection issues a treat!

Thank you, I am not too worried about it, it is annoying, but I think I can live with it, so don't think I need to go to A&E, though, I know they are very good there. . . .

Some years ago, I went to see my gp about something, whilst talking to him, he said, 'I can see something in your eye, is it ok?' it was a black speck, it had been there for quite a few days but wasn't bothering me. He told me to go straight to the eye hospital. I did, it turned out it was a seed, they tried to remove it, but it had rooted in the actual eye, so it took them a good while to get it out!

I often wonder what it would have grown into had I have not visited the gp about something else that day, maybe a week or so later, I would have woken up one morning to find a plant growing out my eye.

Thank you again, if it gets really sore before I get a Gp appointment, I will pop into A&E

Can't help but your last post about the seed in your eye really made me chuckle! Who would have thought a seed could actually root in an eye? One for my Y6 Science lessons ?

When you say 'inside' do you mean that the hair folicle is on the inside of your eye lid or do you mean the hair follicle is in the normal place but the hair direction is causing it to poke back in to your eye?

If it's the latter, then I suffer from this too. I do a facial steam bath so the hair follicles of my eye lashes are softer, then pluck it with tweezers (yes it is a bit daunting to begin with) and it does bloody hurt. Then I give it a salt bath because I worry that now I have a hole there, it'll be suseptible to infection/sty/etc.

I have to do this every few months as the hair grows back but I find it srts it out.

If it's the former then I think an eye specialist is the only way to go.

    Hope it's better soon.
