I bet your guests wont even know that it is not a legally recognised ceremony, in a lot of countries it is anyway! We are getting married in scotland where it is legally recognised and are only havng a humanist ceremony

...That we are having a ceilidh band (barn dance basically!) and some people think that it's nuts - we dont care its fun!!!

...That we aren't doing the wedding party line up thing before the reception - we think its a waste of time!!

...That people think we're crazy for having a bouncy castle - we love it!!!!

My theme is buttons! I am having a button bouquet and my mum and I are making personalised button buttonholes. It's my theme and I loves it.

I think this dress was on four weddings us last week - beautiful!

Im having Doves outside the church - one of the first things i booked!

Im having a balloon arch at reception room door in the colour of my bridesmaids - I love it!

Were having swarovski crystal initial cake toppers - I dont care if anyone thinks its WAG like - I love them!

Were having an 8" groom cake in us in his fav footie teams & my dog - I dont care if its american or pretentious, OH will love it!

Were having cupcakes instead of dishing out all our cake at evening do - we dont go on honeymoon until 3 days later & believe me we'll eat the remainder of our cake!

    We're having one too.

I got asked at a wedding fair about entertainment by a disco company - when I said I didn't need a disco as we'd have our own music playing when the band weren't playing, they got quite stroppy actually.

I'm a little concerned that the room might look a little "bare" during the evening without all the usual flashing lights, but we're working on that.

My silk flowers. Silk flowers have been a "hated" item on a thread on here previously, but I have my reasons:

    1. I'm getting married abroad. I had chosen a florist out there, but she closed down. I couldn't be bothered to find another one.

    2. My SIL2B is a florist. Had I been getting married at home, she'd have done my flowers. If I choose silk, she can still do them.

    3. As per 2 above, they'll be arranged by a professional, not by moi.

    4. I can keep them!

I just love this thread! This is for my mum!!!!!

Our chair covers, no we dont need them, yes they are expensive but i bloody love them.

The 2 casino tables in the evening, might be unecessary but I'm convinced people will love them, if not, we do! Not every one wants to chat/dance all night. Havent got the guts to tell my mum about these......

Our food choices. if your fussy and dont like it then you need to widen your taste buds!

Our non traditional cake. Its yum and pretty and i'm not really bothered if i can't send it in the post to people. Personally i wouldnt want cake thats been posted a couple hundred miles anyway!

My veil over my face.....this one i find hard as i know how much my mum is against it but i reeeeally want it and it just completes things for me. just hope it goes with my hair!

    rant over!!!!

    - Chair covers - I personally don't like the venue's chairs and it's not my fault if the don't have nice ones and therefore choose to do something about it. To me, it's worth the money.

    - My extra flowergirl - Yes I realise she's not family and my Mum has never met her. She's my friend's daughter and it would make her day if she could be my flowergirl so IMO it's worth the £50 or so for a dress, even if my colleagues will moan when they realise that her family were invited all day and they won't be. I can take it.

My dress and shoes. So what if they're not "traditional", i'm not "traditional". If I want to wear black, I blumming well will.

Having my son give me away. I'm not bothered that it's my Dads "job". My biological dad was never there for me growing up, so why would I want him walking me down the aisle?!

Not having a first dance. We don't "do" dancing, so why would we want a first dance?

Our Handfasting. I don't care if you don't "get it", it means a lot to us, so we're going ahead with it.

Balloons on the table in place of the centrepieces in the evening.

A sweetheart table because after all the madness I would like to calm down and eat my meal in peace.

Choosing a room in our venue for the cerremony which only holds 50 people, rather than choosing the big room which holds 100 - because we love the features in the small room.

Only having a MOH & a FG - no bridesmaids.

Yellow as our colour...even though it's not a traditional wedding colour.

A different flower on each table (as that's how the tables will be named) "yes, I know daffodils and lillies are like wearing a tuxedo with jeans but it's our wedding!

That I'm leaving the church to "Defying Gravity" and walking down to "Only Hope" (No mum it does not sound like a funeral)

That I can't invite you all to everything.. Its my wedding, get over it!

That we're going to Egypt for honeymoon.

That I'm having a MOH and a chief bridesmaid. and a page boy and 3 bridesmaids and a flowergirl..

Lots of candles in lanterns AJ! They will look lovely and go with the rustic barn dance feel.

You could get lanterns, or do what I am doing, put them in jam jars (I am decorating them, but you don't have to, they still look lovely).

We are having a live band and are similarly worried, so, as well as lanterns, we are covering the wall with mesh fairy lights.

I went to a wedding with a ceilidh recently and they didn't have disco lights for in between or during or anything and to be honest I never noticed the difference. The room didn't look bare at all, in fact it looked pretty full what with all those people being flung all over the place! It was great. So don't worry.
