I want to hire 26 ceramic cake stands... But no-one seems to do them???

jimjams, 5 November, 2012 at 16:32 Posted on Planning 0 18

Hi all,

I am hoping you are the ladies (and gents) to help!!!

I'm planning a vintage/picnic style wedding reception, and in line with a lot of the themes around in the magazines at the moment, a "tea party"ish look is a big part of it... And at the heart of this is the ceramic cake stands we're seeing everywhere at the moment, thanks to shows like the Great British Bake off etc. But even though this seems to be such a big trend at the moment, I am REALLY struggling to find companies that hire out the ceramic single tier and "afternoon tea" style cake stands. I am based in Cambridgeshire which seems to limit my options even more as the very few companies I have happened across are based MILES away and don't deliver.

Can anyone help?? Buying may be an option rather than hiring IF i can find them at a reasonable enough price, otherwise 26 of them are going to cost me an arm and a leg!!

Thanks all :-) xxx

They sell these in The Range & Dunelm Mill, also look on eBay. Maybe even look in Ikea, they do everything!

Not a clue about hiring though! x

Single tier ones are available from Tesco. I bought one there before the baker told me the cake would be too big for it (grrr). Anyway, I've used it at home since. I think it was about £10 though, and isn't as vintagey/chintzy as the one you've posted.

If you want the vintage, mismatched multi-tier ones, there are loads of people selling them on ebay. We bought 22 for between £5 and £10 each. We've given some away as gifts but still have quite a few, which we'll probably stick back on ebay when we're organised enough!

You can buy vintage style 3 tier cake stands from TK Maxx for around £6 each. Then you could sell them on ebay afterwards.

If you google 'vintage crockery hire Cambridgeshire' then lots of options come up. They may be mis matched colours, but with a few emails, it should be possible to find out. I can't think of any better search terms, but maybe contacting large scale caterers.

Also, when we looked at this option, a lot of places hire for 4 days or so, so even if they don't deliver, it makes collecting them slightly more of an option.

Yes, but this seems to be part of my problem the vintage (flowery) look is all I can seem to find and that's not the look I want. Glass, or a little detail is fine but flowered crockery is just a little too feminine or my H2B so ideally I want plain ivory ceramic. I have found a company that does the afternoon tea 2 tier style, but I still need at least 16 single tier and although buying is an option, after hunting high and low the cheapest I've found in the size I want is £19.99 each which is still almost £400 on single tier cake stands alone which to me and H2B just seems ludicrous. There must be a cheaper way surely? :-/

I can't for the life of me find a photo know but I saw some cake stands made from a vintage plate glued to an up turned vintage cup.

    Hi

Have you tried Facebook or Twitter - there are specialist companies that cater for this exact thing, but the search for them needs to be more specific I think.

I haven't tried Facebook specifically yet, although I am linked to few a companies on there and have tried them but to no avail. All I seem to be finding are either floral or the typical tiered wedding cake style stands. I'm surprised really considering it's such a big look at the moment!

Fingers crossed Mrsrawe2b can help me! :-)

    Thanks ladies!!

As I said, Tesco do plain ivory ceramic for about a tenner. I have one, and they are still on sale in the stores.

I had a look for these yesterday, and typically although they are slighty smaller than I wanted I could make it work, but Tesco don't have them in stock online... Which I'm finding a lot! I'm getting the feeling I am just not meant to have these stands!!

That sounds surprisingly difficult for such a beautiful event setup — especially when you need 26 matching ceramic cake stands in one go. You might have better luck checking with small pottery studios or wedding prop suppliers that do custom batches. I recently came across Marin Court Registry while browsing online resources, and it reminded me how niche suppliers sometimes only appear through deeper searches. Hope you find a vendor soon because ceramic stands would look amazing for the display!

Finding 26 ceramic cake stands at once can be tough since most sellers only keep small batches or custom orders. It may help to reach out to independent makers or wholesale suppliers who do bulk ceramic work. You can also check resources like Clayton Property Search for local business listings that might connect you with relevant vendors. Hopefully you’ll find someone who can produce them in the exact style and quantity you need.
