Ideas needed, how to utilise spare room at venue

Princess Bride 2013, 5 of January of 2014 at 10:27 Posted on Planning 0 8

Hi, I was hoping for some inspiration.

I have exclusive use of my reception venue and have a spare room just off the balcony on the second floor. I would like to utilise this in some way, its a good size, currently used as a conference room. My initial thoughts were to have it set up as a children's play room and fill it full of games to keep them entertained throughout the day, but since its on the next floor up I didn't think it would be the safest option. Any suggestions?

Thanks x

Could it be a chill out area for older guests or those who don't like the music?

what about a photo booth area? The kids play area is a plan, I I shine the room would be perfectly safe-what age kids are you having there?

Did the venue not suggest anything? We had a random room and they set it up with a few chairs and tables for anyone who diddnt like the noise but as it was so warm must oeople who diddnt like it went outside instead.

I like the chill out area idea. I thought about using it as a photo booth area but my partner was concerned that people may not use it? I imagine they would but he have now planted seeds of doubt in my mind. The room is at the top of a stair case and also has another entrance to the building so would feel uneasy, unless the children were supervised all the time and I couldn't arrange that. The children are 3 upwards. x

Hmm with another entrance I see what you mean about being concerned.

We went to a wedding in the summer and the photo booth was in another room. I think the best man told us it was in there and then as soon as a few people had gone and had photos taken everyone knew it was there and it was well used. Hth.

I think a photo room will be the way to go. Cheers for your input x

I have this very same “problem”. Except I have TWO rooms!! If anyone can suggest I’d be grateful!!

One of them has a DVD player and TV in it so we will definitely be using that as a “Parent & Kids/Play Room” for the younger children/babies to relax in, play games, or feed etc. Throw down some mats and toys etc.

Having seen how expensive a GOOD photographer is for the full package we want, a photobooth as well wont be happening!

The second room…. Is of similar size with a long table in it that cannot be moved (least I don’t think it can)…… I suggested a “gents room” with poker, dominoes, casino-style set up but my fiancé doesn’t think so. We don’t need a “chill out room” because the main room in which the Wedding breakfast is being held in, will be somewhat of a chill area (it is between the party room and the bar).

Any thoughts on my second spare room?!? Thanks =)

We had a second space that we used as a kind of playroom but for all ages and guests were directed in there when we needed to reset the main space for the evening.

We had a DIY photo booth (backdrop and props) and our TOG did portraits during the reset time but then left it up for people to take their own. We also had a pick and mix table with sweets, lollies, popping candy and silly little things like bubbles and paper windmills etc. We had a few things for people to colour in / leave us messages on along the wall and a table with crayons and pencils.

Everyone got into the spirit of it and it was well used. However we were conscious of not making it too comfy (there were no chairs in there etc) as we didn't want people to stay in there all night and miss the dancing!

I would say lounge chill/quiet area for those guests who don't want to be around loud music all night long! The kids would love to run around and dance all night believe me!
