Ideas to entertain the children

Olek, 16 September, 2023 at 17:45 Posted on Planning 1 10
Hello,

Does anyone have any ideas for something to entertain children throughout the evening please? I was thinking something like a ball pond. Somewhere that they could entertain themselves and have some fun.
My fiancé and I are planning to get married in March 2024, so we can’t guarantee what the weather will be doing.
ThanksAlex

There are some companies which hire out larger games (corn hole, croquet, etc), but also I went to the £ shop and bought a selection of colouring books, toys, etc, and made little gift bags for the kids when helping with my sister's wedding

You could enquire with the venue on what others have done or what’s possible? We loved the idea of a bouncy castle as there’ll be a fair amount of kids but same as you, we’re worried about the weather. We actually went to see our venue today and they showed us this separate room that we can also access if we want to. The guy said ‘oh this room has been used for all sorts, bouncy castles…’ and went on… and we hadn’t even considered that that could be an option so always worth a chat with the venue x

Our venue had a small room off the main space that we set up a Wii and Switch in with a load of board games, colouring paper/pencils etc for them to go to so maybe ask your venue if they can offer such a space.

I would say most parents will bring stuff for their kids to keep them entertained. Depends on ages as well as little ones will likely still want to be around their parents and older/teenagers will typically behave and just play about on their phones! I will say that on the day all the kids were quite happy mingling and playing together, i would honestly not worry to much or spend huge amounts on something as we found it didn't get used much

You could hire a wedding nanny and or a children’s soft play or teepee area, I am using vipteepeebelltentevents on Instagram

Hi Alex, congratulations on your upcoming wedding! For keeping children entertained throughout the evening, you might consider setting up a soft play area with things like a ball pond, mini craft station, or even a small corner with games and puzzles so they can have fun safely while adults enjoy the event. If you want something more engaging, hiring a kids’ entertainer, magician, or face painter could also be a hit. You could even theme the play area around something fun like The Spike Volleyball Story Characters to add a playful twist that keeps the kids excited and occupied no matter the weather in March.

I’m totally feeling the struggle! We're planning for next year and honestly, keeping the littles busy is my biggest anxiety lol. My daughter is obsessed with drawing lately, so I’m thinking of setting up a 'creativity station' with some cool printables and crayons. Does anyone know where to find something more interesting than just basic coloring books? Like, maybe some fun templates?

Hey Stacy! A creativity station is a lifesaver, trust me. I did this for my cousin’s big day and it was a hit. I actually found this super cute face template that kept the kids busy for ages because they could draw themselves or the bride and groom. Just print a bunch of them out, put them in a cute basket with some glitter glue and markers, and you’re golden! It’s way cheaper than hiring a pro entertainer and keeps the table mess-free.

Keeping children entertained is honestly an art . From games and outdoor activities to fun online trends, there’s always something new to keep them busy. Even older kids these days enjoy random internet trends like the Rice Purity Test just for laughs and curiosity with friends.

A ball pit is a great idea, especially for younger children. You could also set up a small craft table, board games, coloring books, or even hire a children's entertainer for a couple of hours if your budget allows. If the weather isn't great, having an indoor movie corner with cushions and a projector can keep kids happy too. On a related note, I recently came across a site recommending inat box 16.25 for people looking for an older version of the app, and it seemed quite helpful. Hope you both have an amazing wedding day!
