Idiot proof merangue recipe.

duggo, 13 June, 2008 at 12:16 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 8

U Is it the Delia one that is highly recomended as being idiot proof?

I've never had any luck with them, but am making eaton mess tomorrow. At least I know they don't have to be perfect looking for that, but they usually go a bit runny, which I don't want.

update: Did the Delia one (was being brave about doing 'proper' meringues, and they are PERFECT. ? Which means I am now slightly annoyed that I didn't make a pavlova, and I have to break up all my little PERFECT meringues for eton mess?

Phil Vickery did a foolproof meringue on This Morning yesterday. It's still on the website, I think.

He said the crucial thing was to weigh your egg whites and add twice the weight of sugar to egg whites. Because egg sizes vary so much, it's the only way to get the right ratio, he said.

Just don't use the recipe that the dippy woman used in Thursday's CDWM - she binned about 5 different meringues and then ended up fishing them out of the bin to use them! ?

He did a microwave meringue too, which cooked in just 45 seconds. It takes more sugar than the normal one but he said it was great if you were in a rush and was fine for Eton Mess.

My mum used to make microwave meringues years ago - I was so sceptical the first time, but they worked a treat.

How annoying - I posted an update and it didn't bounce it to the first page - I hate the new hitched, I still haven't got the hang of it (sob)
