If anyone knows of any lawful impediment....

emmyroo22, 14 June, 2009 at 13:10 Posted on Planning 0 8

Random bored sunday wondering....

Obviously in films and saops people interupt all the time with their undying love for the bride/groom, just wondered if this has actually happened in real life?? surely not?

I just can't imagine a dramatic opening of the church doors with someone saying 'i do, i love that man/women' or he's still married etc etc.

Has anyone actually been at a wedding where this has happened??

We asked our vicar if this had ever happened to him and he said yes!!!!

He said that when he asked if there was any lawful impediment, the bride's mother jumped up and said that the groom wasn't good enough for her daughter and started ranting, she had to be escorted out of the church apparently ?

The vicar said that he could not accept the objection and had to carry on because it wasn't "lawful" i.e the groom wasn't a bigamist or anything, it was just a personal grievance that the mother of the bride had!

I cant help thinking what the reception was like afterwards though, tense i bet! ?

Our vicar told us that people who do it without an actual reason get fined! About £200, I think it was, for 'Disrupting a religious ceremony'!

I don't know of anyone actually doing it though!

And the tradition I heard was that if someone does do it for no lawful reason, they have to pay for the church fees. Bit of a story if you ask me though.

I hate this part of the ceremony...... my stomach will churn over an over and I have no reason why - unless they find out that OH and I are 23rd cousins, 5th removed or summin equally silly given our matching names! I would have to kill someone.... LOL!

    Never seen it happen myself.

Teehee how good is that! You don't have to get used to using a new name.
