If you could get married anywhere......

yorkshirekiwi, 14 June, 2015 at 04:43 Posted on Planning 0 10

I'm getting married in NZ. Over here, as long as the celebrant is licensed then the venue doesn't matter. You can literally get married anywhere.

So, if you could choose any location, where would you get married?

I would have loved to get married on Martha's Vineyard on the beach with a reception at a beach house. I am pretty jealous that my brother is getting married on Cape Cod on the beach and having his reception at our aunt's house. I would have loved to have my puppy dog there too.

That being said, what we ended up with was pretty spectacular - on the water, fireworks, military flyover, helicopter display, small church, beautiful food and wine. However, that was in Canberra and without my puppydog.

Yeah. Heaps of people head on down and get married on the beach. I had a friend who got married last week literally on her sofa with a cuppa. Her, her partner, their kid as witness and their celebrant to make it legal!

There's also plenty of people who follow a more typically British route and have a church/registry office/hotel ceremony and reception. I'd love for ours to be unique, but I don't want over-complicated.

Ooh, tough question. Definitely somewhere in Japan, but I can't choose between Miyajima Island, a zen garden in Kyoto, a beach wedding on an island in Okinawa, or at the Meiji Jingu shrine in Tokyo.

Me and my OH were talking about this a couple of days ago!

I'd love to get married on a clifftop somewhere, overlooking the beach and the sea. The stipulation being that the weather is lovely and it's just the two of us (plus the dogs)

    That's my dream.

To be honest, I'd still get married in Liverpool, but I would pick this venue and as it's all fantasy, we could have it all day and have the day and food however we want it (as in laid back BBQ)

In reality I looked at it when we first started planning as I just love it as a place, but it is stupidly expensive, you can only hire it for so many hours (think it was over £6000 for like 5 hours hire or something daft like that and if it was longer you had to pay for each additional hour) and the food is not what we wanted. If we went for it I would have totally felt ripped off! And the groom wouldn't have eaten anything all day.

In England I'd stick with what we're going for- local church where I was christened then back to the family farm.

In NZ however, I think I'd go for up high somewhere with an amazing view, perhaps Abel Tasman , or perhaps by one of the huts in the sounds and make a weekend of it or the Corromandel. OH would choose the centre of New Zealand which is above Nelson and has great views.

It would be the venue we are getting married in! Gaynes Park in Epping, Essex. I loved the idea of getting married somewhere in Italy but I just couldn't imagine my wedding day without all our friends and family there, which would have been the case if we did it abroad.

We've picked our dream venue )

I would have gone to Vegas if we could have afforded it, but there is also a part of me that would like some kind of boho hippy woodland ceremony with fairy lights and that sort of nonsense.

My first choice venue was out of our price range by some way and although I loved our venue and have no regrets, this is where I wanted to get married:

Amazing. I'd love to get married in Japan. Instead, we had a Japanese themed wedding in Newcastle and we are having our 'official' honeymoon in Japan next Spring.
