Hi everyone,

we've booked our wedding for next june and i love the idea of have lots of little teacups on the tables that we will probably give away as favours. Does anyone have any websites or any shops that i could visit??

All suggestions will be a great help!!

Thanks

Yes, charity shops are the way to go, they always seem to have loads of cups and saucers, they wont cost the earth either, and you are helping charity!

I find charity shops are getting more expensive but i would try carboots in the summer!! there is usually some old dear getting rid of some of her vintage teacups! I would also try gumtree and ebay for 'job lot teacups' in your area...a lot of people have already had similar themes and are trying to get rid of theirs in job lots so it's worth it to keep checking on there...i have got most of mine from carboots though!! alternatively you could hire them...i think a woman i spoke to at a wedding fayre was doing them for £1 per cup and saucer...depends how many guests you have!! x

Last summer i saw lots of florists in my area selling boxes of mismatched tea cups really cheap I assume they use them for decor then get rid of them so worth a try.

I would maybe post this on OT too - I seem to remember a few OMs using mismatched vintage tea cups in their weddings, and some may now have lots they want to sell.

This is what I am having for our wedding in July.

I have trawled around charity shops galore and finally have enough for 10 tables. I am having teapots and teacups for centrepieces and vintage plates to eat off of.

I would guesstimate it cost me around £80 to collect them all. Maybe slightly more. I have around 11 teapots, 30/40 tea cups and 120 plates. There are bargains to be had and to buy in bulk makes it much cheaper rather than buying them individually.

    Good luck!

I've gotten a couple things in charity shops. Otherwise a good thing to do it check ebay for job lots of crockery, I plan to do that closer to the wedding, but I check every couple weeks and there's ALWAYS been an auction or two of anywhere from 15 to 50 tea cup sets, trios, cake stands, and tea pots, creamers, and sugar bowls.

I've been collecting for the last 6 months or so and have found that vintage tea cups are now a very popular thing and have been getting harder and harder to come by or have been more expensive than previous. People are using them to making candles or tea stands etc. I have got a lot from charity shops but tend to find that the shops in less trendy areas are loads better. I've also used a place in Glasgow called the Barras which is kind of a flea market come antiques yet and got lots of bargains there. My biggest successes however have been personal contacts and I've had teacups from friend's grandparents! So generous. So spread the word!

Thanks everyone! You've been a great help! I live in Edinburgh and there are plenty of charity shops for me to wander around.

    Thanks again!

I went to a wedding fayre recently and picked up a flyer for a supplier who rents vintage crockery...could that be a consideration, for decoration if you can't find enou to give as favours? Just an idea...

    Hi Danielle,

Hi, I got married in August this year and we had lots of lovely vintage teacups, milk jugs sugar bowls plates, bon bon dishes etc.

We are now selling it as I don't have space for it all in our flat!

We are based in London, let me know if you would be interested!

    Hi Hannah,

Sounds great. How many do you have? And how much would you be looking to sell them for? I'm based in Edinburgh but will be willing to pay for postage and packaging.

    D xx

If you have any local auction houses you can often find some bargains.

Relatives, my mum has cupboards fiull of them that she can't bring herself to throw away. They are on ebay but have become expensive, probably cheaper to buy copies from the High street now.

We're only having a small wedding of around 50, we're currently looking at venues, then look into photographers (already have a few in mind) and start dress shopping. ?

    Hi Danielle,

I have 46 teacups and saucers, 18 side plates, 14 milk jugs, 10 sugar bowls, 32 glass bon bon dishes, 3 spare saucers and 3 large cake plates, so 126 items in total, and I am looking for about £250.

My only concern with trying to post them is going to cost a fortune as they are really heavy and currently fill 6 large fruit crates, also, I would be worried about them breaking before they reach you?

I dont suppose you have any friends in London or are planning to make a trip at some point?
