Imaginary spiders - does this happen to anyone else?

Roobarb, 13 October, 2008 at 12:18 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 15

Sometimes I am just sitting, or wandering about doing something and out of the corner of my eye I'll think I see a big black thing crawling about, and that it's a spider - but when I turn my head and look properly, there's nothing there! So I am seeing imaginary spiders ? does this happen to anyone else? Or am I alone in my weirdness? ?

You're not alone at all, but then I see imaginary spiders lurking everywhere. Saying that, I'm convinced they're real spiders just fucking with our heads...

    You are not alone!

Sadly, on at least half of the occassions when I've thought 've seen one, I really HAVE seen one including a couple that produced meat when sqashed, they were so big. Ugh.

I think what I actually see is 'floaters' in my eye, and my mind somehow fills in the blanks to make them dark and spidery

I get this and put it down to seeing the edges of my glasses.

I do this too. I also "know" when there's a spider in the room- I used to think I could sense them somehow but actually I think I probably catch a glimpse of them and realise they're in the room somewhere.

I have extremely bad floaters in my eyes so yes I see things in my periphery vision but always think they're flies rather than spiders. I wish there was a "cure" for floaters - pesky little blighters.

Sometimes, but then I wonder if it's because we do get some fairly large ones in the house that I'm looking for them more so any floater might be a spider!

Although the huge one on the wall next to me when I turned my head unfortunately wasn't pretend! And then it dropped off the wall next to my feet when I swore at it ?

No you are, it's just we all are too ?

I don't wear glasses and I don't think I have floaters. I dunno though maybe I should go and get my eyes tested in case it is. I haven't had my eyes tested in 15 years, scandalous esp since my sister and BIL are optometrists who run their own business with a shop about 10 mins away from my house ?

I do this all the time.

Also, last night I dreamt that there was a huge spider holding a big raspberry on the window(!!) and I was really worried about how I would squish it without making a huge mess ?

Not that I wish to cast aspersions on the quality of Moscow student accommodation, but when my sister came back home after a year's research there, she would instinctively assume that any speck on the wall would start scuttling of its own accord - because that's clearly what she was expecting!

Our wood fireplace edge has a big black knot in it, and I convince myself it's a spider at least once a day.

Its spider sense. If you dont actually see the spider there and then, you can be sure it is lurking in your home somewhere...

Happens to me frequently. As well as occasional dreams where hundreds of the feckers are crawling all over the bed, resulting in me jumping out of bed (usually while still asleep) yelling and shaking them off, much to mr v's annoyance ?
