Inglewood Manor, anyone been? - Xposted

Cosmopolitan, 19 March, 2009 at 19:50 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 25

Hiya, thought I would post this on here as well as WP to get more opinions.

We're looking to book Inglewood for our wedding but before I call and confirm tomorrow I wondered if anyone had been to a wedding here and what it was like?

My concern is that the disco is in a seperate room and I'm worried that as the disco is often a focal point that people might get bored and not feel involved. What do you think? Double doors open up into the room but you probably wouldn't see half of it. People can obviously get up and walk into the room.

Thanks

Cosmo

    Hi

We went to a wedding there in September. Lovely building and stunning grounds. The meal was a little cramped but that would depend on how many guests there are.

I didn't get to see any of the disco as we had LO with us and I stayed with her in the room once she had gone to bed.

    Thanks Trouble.

I take it you didn't hear anything particularly bad about it though?

We went to a wedding there last year in July. The grounds are lovely and games on the lawn would be great. The wedding didnt have a disco, they had a man playing the piano and singing in the main area opposite the doors that open to the front so the room to the left wasnt used. The room to the right with the fireplace is where we had the meal.

One thing I would say that let the venue down was the food. We thought it was pretty poor. The wedding breakfast was edible but the evening food wasnt good. Well we didnt think so and even the groom commented on how much it had cost for what it was and it was served in the reception area which was weird. The bar is also very cramped and very expensive.

My friend tried to book the same venue for her 40th next year, they said yes to the Saturday she wanted although she didnt sign anything as she was waiting for paperwork to be sent out. Within a week she got a phone call saying that unless she spent £5000 on food then she couldnt have it. I thought that was poor. They must have got a better booking I suppose.

Oh and they got the name wrong of the husband and wife when announcing...which was funny.

One last thing - if you do book it and its a month where it can be hot I suggest staying in the room for a short time as it gets really hot as the sun is right on it between 2-5. We were all boiled!

    Thanks Fenella.

Can you recommend anywhere else in the area? I'm not from Wirral originally so I haven't been to any weddings in the area. Makes it so much harder!

    Hi,

I'm not from the Wirral either, my H is but as we live in Cheshire we did research the Wirral when looking for our wedding venue.

Thornton Manor is supposed to be very nice - very picturesque.

    Rookery Hall looks lovely too.

I love the look of Sandhole Farm.

We're going to a wedding in a month at Rowton Hall.

Unfortunately I havent been to many weddings in the Wirral apart from my own! Which was lovely ?

Are you in the Wirral and thats why you want your wedding there?

Have you eaten at Inglewood? Why dont you book yourself in and try it for yourself. My experience could have been a one off?

Fenella, yep, live in Eastham. Only moved over here 18 months ago though from Liverpool. H is from Wirral but typical man hasn't got a clue!

    Where was your wedding?

I havent been to a wedding at Inglewood but my sister is getting married in Thornton Manor in 3 weeks. Its absolutley gorgeous and the people there are lovely. You have to have caterers but we've had a tasting with the one she picked and it was lovely.

Ive also been to weddings at Rowton Hall in Chester, and Craxton Wood and they were both really nice.

Is Eastham North Wirral? My H is from Heswall (well actually South Africa).

We got married at Ness Gardens and had the wedding breakfast and evening do at the Chester Grosvenor in the City Centre.

The Grosvenor in Pulford has lovely grounds too if thats a major thing for you?

Eastham is at the end of the A41 near the motorway, not too far from Heswall. I often drive to Tesco there!

I just want the venue to have the wow factor, so I guess the grounds are important!

Thanks Polly Pocket. Is your sister having a big wedding or do they do smaller weddings too? I want something quite intimate and was worried that it looked a bit big. That was my problem with Craxton Wood as well.

Well unless the weather is nice the grounds are going to be pretty useless...imo but then we wasnt really bothered about the grounds hence going to the Grosvenor.

Maybe get a list of places and go and visit them all? Have a look on the council website as they usually have lists of them all.

I actually fancied Chester Zoo - would have been different and they do have the means of serving food etc.

    Good luck.

We're just been to see Crabwall Manor which we really liked as well. Although Chester Zoo sounds fun!

Did you pop into the Mollington Hotel and theres Mollington Golf Club too. We provisionally booked the Golf Club although we wanted the marquee outside rather than inside which is a little bit chintzy.

Theres also Soughton Hall in Mold. H's brother had his wedding there and they said it was fab!

Just thought of another one we looked at Chester Town Hall....hmmm but no grounds.

There's Sheldrakes which sits on the Estuary but might not be as fancy as you want but the views are nice?

    Leasowes Castle?

Thornton Manor certainly has the wow factor, and I know they do have smaller weddings but you do have to hire the whole house. My sister is having about 75 in the day so not huge really.

Soughton Hall as FF said is gorgeous too, its just up the road from me, but its another where you have to hire the whole place, might be worth a look though as the drive up to it is amazing

    https://soughtonhall.co.uk/

Im a florist so have done lots of weddings in that area and Chester.

Some friends go married in Peckforton Castle and thats lovely too, and again as FF said the Grosvenor Pulford is nice too, but not sure if thats a bit far away.

Heve you looked at Hillbark Hotel? We did flowers for a marquee there and it was stunning.

Forgot about Peckforton Castle. Thats a stunning venue. We stayed the night once for my birthday, there was only us there and the food was nice but I have read bad reviews about it although that was a few years ago now.

My friend is having her wedding party on the Princess Diana boat thats on the river in Chester.

Theres the racecourse at Chester too.

FF can I ask when you got married? I used to be the florist at the Grosvenor, just wondering if I would have met you!

Peckforton does look gorgeous but I'm not sure if its a bit further out than what we want.

I think Hillbark looks amazing but my ex recently got married there and I don't want it to look like I'm copying him! Damn him!

PP - we got married 21 June 08. We actually were a bit cheap and didnt have flowers just candelabras ? Well I had a nerine bouquet and buttonholes but none on the tables.

I really love it at the Grosvenor though. Been there so many times now that it just feels like home...strange thing to say but its my favourite place to go for good food and being looked after. We were there yesterday and going again on Monday. Cant wait!

Ah ok, I left the shop in 07. You dont need anything other than those gorgeous candleabras in there though! It is a lovley hotel, I used to have to take flowers in all the time and felt really skanky as I was always just in my work clothes.

Have you been in the Spa? I got my sis a voucher for a manicure in there. Its lovely.

Cosmopolitan, how about The Red House, on Dee Banks in Chester? its a very different venue to the others, very modern, but stunning, has fabby views of the river and I think you can take a boat trip from there too. Has the wow factor but a different wow!

Thought of more that we looked at -

Tabley Hall - really lovely setting.

Mere Golf and Country Club - friend had her wedding here, before I knew her, just because of the Lake which reminded her of Pride and Prejudice and Darcy.

I know what you mean about feeling a bit skanky - if I know I'm going there I always dress up.

The staff are lovely though and Paul was a complete gem and loved the older Doorman.

Havent ever used the spa but I should do...when I'm thinner!

My friend loves the Red House....I have never been though and no idea where it is...going to Google now.
