iPod Party Songs? Suggestions Please!

Tizzie, 27 May, 2012 at 22:28 Posted on Planning 0 7

We're doing music ourselves and although we have use of a full DJ kit, we're playing our own songs. The first dance is Use Somebody by Kings of Leon, but apart from that I don't really know, I like everything from 60s to current, quite dancey ones, just not so much 80's.

Any suggestions of some good songs for everybody (guests from 2 to 91!) and people will be able to suggest music from my brothers laptop throughout the night too.

Also what is your 'must play' song at a party?

Thanks Smiley smile S x

For me and the girls it has to be dancing queen, Abba

But I'll be keeping a close eye on this thread as were doing the same for a couple of hours of the evening and want to have a nice mix of styles and genres that appeal to all.

If you had any cheesey night clubs in your area that you used to visit just think of all those songs and then maybe throw in a few from your school disco days! x

If you don't have a good music collection and will need to download/purchase songs, I suggest you browse some of those collection sets for ideas. Ultimate Sixties Party, Best Indie Album Ever....and so on. This will give you the "big hits" in each genre, to start your list and prompt ideas.

We have been having a 'you tube off' where we each play a song at the other, we cut the other one off if we think our song beats theirs, if a song lasts 50 seconds or longer it goes on the list. It does mean a bit of net surfing (and tangents when we watch other people pet videos) but i'm loving remembering songs I forgot I loved - the coral, dreaming of you, is my fav today!

quite fun especially when there is nothing on the tv!

Go for some 70s songs. Some soul, disco and funk always goes down well. Go for some Jackson 5, Earth Wind and Fire, Stevie Wonder etc. It can't fail to get people on the dancefloor!
