Ironing knickers

Spamboule, 24 February, 2009 at 10:16 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 33

Seriously, does anyone do this?

I was hanging out the washing yesterday & caught sight of the washing label in a pair of my knickers which said to iron them on a low heat. As if I don't have enough to do with me evenings, surely no one in their right frame of mind would do this. It's as bad as ironin towels!!

My mother does. And towels. And thinks I'm a lazy slovenly moo because I don't. My mother is mental.

I think a lot of older people reckon ironing the gusset kills off any germs, esp. now we wash on lower temperatures. Have no idea if that's right or not. I don't iron mine, or MrSun's boxers.

is your mother mine? MIL does it too... i remember when H first moved in with me he told me that his mum ironed his pants and socks - i told him that i wouldn't be at all offended if he took his washing for her to do still......

if MIL dries my washing for me she even irons nappies and liners ?

    I iron underwear (cotton ones).

But then I do live on Wisteria Lane & my Mummy always told me to, just in case I got knocked down. They help you if you have clean fresh knickers, did you not know.

I would never iron knickers or Mr Caterpillar's boxers - I spend long enough ironing our work shirts without finding somethign else to iron!

My mum used to iron my brother's boxers when he lived at home! She used to say she thought they would be uncomfortable otherwise!

    I don't iron anything ? I am such a slattern.

My grandmother used to iron all theirs on the fiercest, steamiest heat her iron could manage. With particular emphasis on the gusset. There again, they'd have all been boil washed (on the hob) first. She had a saucepan for hers, and a different pan for Grandad and my Great Uncle's pants. They'd be boiled for hours, iirc, with the elastic hanging out so it didn't go saggy. What she'd have said about this modern fad of washing at 30 degrees I don't know, let alone people putting male and female undergarments in the same washing machine ?

This is what I thought- not that you have a big arse ? but that knickers are surely close-fitting enough not to have creases. If you've got creased knickers (when on) they're surely too big? Unless you're wearing French knickers, I suppose.

PL, don't you know you can get pregnant if you wash all the pants together? Gasp! ?

Iron? What's that? I haven't ironed for years. Wash, shake vigorously, hang to dry. I don't buy clothes that need ironing and am lucky enough to have a very casual dress policy at work.

MrL's mum does his ironing, she likes to, he would do his own otherwise.

I must admit I do wash my knickers at 60 degrees though........

Sensible lady. Perhaps I should start segregating mine & H's underwear!

So, it looks like the general consensus is that no one is daft enough to iron their own knickers. Good.

I try to get away with not ironing anything - we only really get it out if we are going somewhere smart. Once, at an old bf's house I watched his mother iron pants, knickers, bath towels, tea towels...then again my SIL thinks I am lazy for not ironing bed linen or PJs like she does.

I too don't iron unless we are going somewhere posh?. Thankfully Mr Cee wears t-shirts to work that usually come straight out of the washer crinkle free and no ironing is required. I once had to iron the curtains in the bedroom and it was a nightmare in the end I just hung em up and the wrinkles just dropped out!

Not an ironer here. I hang everything up when I take it out of the machine so don't get creases. I can't remember the last time I ironed anything........

I also wash everything at 30 degrees, apart from the bedding, but the lovely person at the laundrette washes and dries my bedding. It's SUCH a faff to do it myself as my bedding is huge!

When I lived abroad my cleaner used to iron pants and it took me ages to get used to it.

Re the ironing the gusset to get rid of germs, my GP once told me to put pants in the microwave for 10 seconds on high power to kill the spores that give you such lovely nasties as thrush.

I learnt to iron by doing teatowels and hankies so nothing surprises me especially as my grandma used to iron everything. I hate ironing with a passion so Simon does his own and I only do stuff for special occasions. Made my saturday job living hell on occasion as I worked for Brentfords and so had to iron the bedding for the displays!

I actually quite like ironing (although I rarely do it due to lack of time). There's something very satisfying about turning crumpled clothes into lovely smooth ones- I find it very satisfying because the results are so immediate and clear. if I had infinite time, I'd iron everything ?

My mother irons absolutely everything and thinks I am a lazy madame as I can just about be bothered to do the washing each week - kind of separate out darks and whites and then bung them in on 30 although the water here in the summer is always much hotter.

My cleaner comes once a week and changes the bedding which I take down the laundry as its a huge bed and the cleaner is the tiniest woman I have ever seen, and I am buggered if I am ironing it, so off it goes to the laundry. We kind of argue about the fact that I want minimal ironing and she likes to iron everything. We now have a happy medium. If I leave it out, she irons it. If its in drawers, then she is not to go through the drawers and haul it out to be ironed.

I have to say, when I am at my mums and she does my ironing - thanks mum - it is kinda nice to put on crinkle free pj's, but not that nice that I iron them when I am at home.

? I'm an ironer! Towels, face clothes, underwear, even bras if i can get away with it! I iron bedding then put it on the bed, and iron to get rid of the creases which have been made due to folding! My mother is a definate only iron if i really need to ironer! I'm only 20 and a student! My OH does think it's mad, he never irons his clothes! Only shirts! I think i have a problem.. I also get annoyed by other peoples creases! I have frequently ironed my housemates clothes just because it will make me happy!

I hate ironing, but I attribute this to the poxy £5 Asda iron I have. I think if I was bought a super-duper, whizzy cordless type I'd enjoy it more. But then I could not be f*cked to spend this much on something to flatten clothes when body heat does a perfectly good job!

Ironing towels? Mine are folded in such a dexterous, origami-like way that obvious creases are rendered invisible. Happy to provide some tips and hints ?

    Not a chance!

But my grandma does, and socks. My Dad (who doesn't iron very often) did iron my reusable breastpads when I'd just had my daughter though, don't think he even knew what they were !
