Is anyone else decorating the church without flowers?

lady_esmerelda, 16 June, 2008 at 21:36 Posted on Planning 0 11

Well, not entirely without flowers, but with only a few? I don't really want too many flowers, its not really very "us", but I can't think of how else to decorate a Church of England traditional church building...

If anyone has any ideas, could you share them please? I'm getting desperate!

Thanks,

lady_e ?

I didn't have any flowers in the Church apart from the bouquets.

People didn't even notice until i mentioned it.

Not having a church wedding but not having any flowers at our venue - I'm using corn dolly decorations instead.. you could out a welsh fan at the end of each pew...

Did you not have any other decoration either then? Only, people keep talking about flowers, and tbh, like I say, I'm not that bothered by them... I was thinking of maybe a small christmas-tree type bush either side of the doors with fairy lights in, but other than that I don't really want much. And obviously, no flowers is cheaper ? and heaven knows we don't have the money! Anyway, thanks girls, that's really useful. ?

If you are getting married at Christmas the Church will probably be decorated anyway. Also a lot of churches have ladies who put Fresh Flowers in every week. Check with your church first it could save you some money.

You could just add pull bows to the end of the pews:

There were already 3 or 4 displays of flowers in the church (fairly big church) and one of the ladies put bows on the pew ends. I thought they'd look really tacky but suprisingly they looked really nice.

I'm so glad someone else is planning to limit the flowers to bouquets!! I think we will have just bouquets and maybe one pedestal display in the church. We have old fashioned wooden chairs, so nowhere to put pew ends, and with a bit of luck the church will be so full of guests noone will notice the lack of flowers. Good for the budget and good for the hayfever?

You can still attach the pull bows, they can be stuck on with blutac as they are really light.

We're not having any flowers apart from anything that is already in the church. We get married between Christmas and New Year so I figured that it will be festively decorated anyway. There are also certain restrictions in our church around Christmas so it was another good reason not to bother, along with the problems getting fresh flowers at that time of year.

I don't think anyone will notice. I know that, try as I might, I can never remember what the church decorations looked like at previous weddings I've attended! I'd rather spend the money on providing enough food and drink for the guests tbh.

Hi, if its winter time you could have candles all round the church. My church does this as its usually quite dark inside and looks amazing.

we're only having candles and 1 arrangement of flowers for the alter/signing register table (civil ceremony in a ruin) which we are then taking with us to the reception to go on the top table. It cost me £20 and does the job.
