Is anyone else getting screwed by their venue as well as covid?

We have moved our wedding date 4 times now, and with the reduction of numbers due to restrictions, the cost per person is going up!

We are being charged £1500 for 15 people (£100 per head), at which they'll get 6(!) canapés each and 2 glasses of Prosecco. Which now needs to be sit down outside "come rain or shine". We were originally (pre covid) going to pay £91 per head for canapés, 3 course meal, wine, Prosecco etc. I feel like we're propping them up, with no sight of where this cost is coming from.... Venue hire fee is on top of this and an additional £1500, for 2 hours.

I am now so fed up and disillusioned with it all we we are going ahead with the ceremony, and cancelling the reception which they are now taking £1000 +vat for the pleasure.
I know times are hard for the wedding sector, but there is very little info for couples who are being screwed, and no recourse, allowing vendors to get away with it.
If anyone has any advice on what we can do its greatly appreciated.

I haven't fully read through it but could be helpful. It does say about how you should be entitled to a refund if you cannot have certain services due to public health issues, has to be put in writing. Good luck!!!

Sounds terrible. So far my venue has been lovely but I wanted to say that if you’ve read the legislation and what your venue are offering though unfair is legal as a example could you not ask to have fewer canapé and more Prosecco?

That way you could give unopened bottles as a gift to the 4 attendees. Just a thought.

It totally is morally unethical. I just hope you put reviews on here for those vendors who won’t work with you fairly. You may not get anywhere with them but it’s just sad.
