Is 'household ammonia' the same as bleach? (USA Hitchers?)

Janna, 6 July, 2008 at 10:53 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 6

I'm Googling how to get my diamond jewellery sparkling and most sites are American. They're advising me to use 'household ammonia'. Is that equivilent to bleach over here?

?

Not according to wikipedia (see the household use section which says the two should never be mixed)

No - and as Elle says don't mix them! I'm not sure where to get ammonia tbh - maybe trad cleaning section of the supermarket, or the chemist?

    Or collect wee.

Christ ? Thanks ladies, it's a good job I have this place, otherwise I'm sure I'd have had some sort of accident/injury by now. ?

You can get pure Ammonia from Boots in the UK (I used to use it for cycling fish tanks).

Cycling fish tanks? Is that like an egg and spoon race, only wetter and on bikes?

Waaah! Yup you give the fish bikes and off they go....

In the real world, it is a slightly boring process you got through to get fish tanks ready to put fish in.

I would just use fairy, or alcohol on your diamonds. I've just done mine with surgical spirit, but gin would work too.
