Is it bad to keep re-boiling the same water?

Sparkley Christmas Muff, 3 December, 2008 at 16:19 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 15

I am being really tight, and green with water at the moment!

Is it bad if I fill up my hot water bottle with boiled ater, and when it goes cold to pour it back into the kettle to re-boil and repeat over again.....??

Oh, and the reason for the hoy water bottle, I am also being tight, and green with my heating!!!! ?

You might find that you might get a rubbery taste the next time you boil water for tea or something else....

I probably wouldn't reuse the old water because it'll taste rubbery and could also be full of bugs (though admittedly boiling it should get rid of the worst).

I do always try to only boil what I need though

Could you use the cold hot-water-bottle water to water plants or something? I wouldn't reboil it though.

It will be OK if I just use the water I have re-boiled to fill up the hot water bottle though?

I only drink tea at home on a Saturday & SUnday morning, so I will make sure I use fresh water then!! ?

Can you microwave the hot water bottle?

I have no idea if they are microwave safe but it might say on it.... or a hitched scientist could tell you.

There's still rubbery water to sit around in the kettle. Really, I don't think it's that much of a problem to draw a hot water bottle's worth of fresh water ?

That is a seriously bad idea, not least because many HWBs have metal threads for the stopper, but the idea of boiling water (and expanding steam) inside one doesn't bear thinking about.

Ah, they would be seriously over watered then!? Get more house plants?

Put a bucket by the toilet and put the hot water bottle water in there until there is enough to fill the cistern?

Get an oat bag hot water bottle thingy so no water is needed and you heat it in the microwave?

I agree. Almost as wince-worthy as my H announcing his intention to make plasma in my microwave. I blame Reddit.com for a lot.

Exploding hot water bottles is good fun though - they get huge! You would never imaging they would get so large.

Just pouring the water in the toilet bowl would work. You don't have to put it in the cistern.
