Is it standard to invite all out of town guests to a "destination" wedding rehearsal dinner?

Think this is an American thing, I've not heard of anyone this side of the pond doing it - but I think it's a nice idea if you have the budget and lots of you are around the night before!

My brother had a wedding away from hometown and lots of people stayed in the area the night before but for their meal they just had immediate family which was nice to spend an evening just as the family before the big day, bit is up to you. I would personally find it stressful the might before with everyone
