Originally the medieval 'Dies Irae' theme - but it's been quoted loads of times since, in Berlioz' Symphonie Fantastique, Saint-Saëns' Danse Macabre, the theme music to The Shining and lots of other places.

i thought berlioz symphonie fantastique was the scary bit they used in sleeping with the enemy

i have never watched the shining because i am a *** - but wondered from an earlier post if it was the ubiquitous scary nerr ner nerr nerrrr that i had in my head

i sound like a proper crazy person now dont i ?

Symphonie Fantastique was used in Sleeping with the Enemy too, so you're not crazy at all. Or at least you're only as crazy as me...
