Is our honeymoon a good deal? / How far in advance is too far?

Anonbride, 5 September, 2022 at 10:45 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 0 10

Veeeeery tempted to book a resort in Mexico Rivera Cancun for our honeymoon. Trail finders has found what looks like a great option, but we’re looking at end of 2023 so they guesstimate a price for flights and will honour it whether they go up or down between now and then (so we might wind up with a awesome deal or a bad deal or something pretty average basically).

We’re based in the UK and have been quoted £6000 total - 5 star, all inclusive, swim up room for 10 nights including direct flights and private transfers. It’s obviously A LOT of money but my understanding is the earlier you book typically the better price you get (unless you go super last minute which I’m not so sure about risking for the honeymoon…)
Any advice? Is this wise?
Also if anyone’s been to Mexico and can comment on whether it’s as good as it looks I’d appreciate it!

    Hello!
I wouldn’t say it’s too early to book at all, even it wasn’t your honeymoon I would still say go ahead and book!
Do you mind me asking what hotel it is? I’ve been to Mexico twice, and stayed 5* with flights transfers etc for 14 nights, not had the swim up room but we haven’t paid anywhere near £6000! ( even though the last time I went was 2016 so prices may have gone up) Who is the holiday with, is it TUI or someone else?
However I would 1000% recommend going to Mexico, it really is amazing! The beaches, the clear waters all of the staff in the hotels can never do enough for you the service is great! Hotels usually have plenty of restaurants inside them too! There’s always activities on in the hotels through the day and have good nighttime shows. There is also good excursions to do outside of the hotels too, like going to see Mayan ruins if you’re into that kind of thing, or going swimming in underwear caves etc! We would go back to Mexico anytime we love it. Any other questions about Mexico, I’m happy to help 🙂

Me and my partner went to Cancun in 2016 for 14 nights all inclusive at a 5* adults only resort - it was our first holiday on own as a couple and honestly it was just like a honeymoon. Even the hotel must’ve assumed it was because we were greeted with a bottle of Prosecco and a congratulations card 😂

The resort was beautiful, the food and cocktails was the best I ever had at an all inclusive and there’s so many excursions to do - swimming with turtles and in cenotes (underground caves), visiting the Mayan sites ect.
I think we paid around £1,300 per person but I’ve just looked and the same resort is now £2,300pp so it’s gone up quite significantly. But saying that I still think it’s worth the price, it really was the perfect holiday and would be a great honeymoon destination!

Oooh thank you! This is definitely making me feel like we can do better!! We went into Trailfinders but have been investigating Turquoise today.

Were you able to swim in the sea? We've been reading some reviews that say the sea weed is SO BAD that it's impossible Smiley sad

Loved the idea of the ruins and the underwater caves but were gutted when we heard the sea wasn't really swimmable!

    Hello,
I’m not really a big fan of the sea myself but my partner goes swimming in the sea and I usually paddle to my knees lol but the sea was so clear, I can’t remember there being a lot of seaweed tbh, and that was on the beach at the hotel and the main beach in Playa Del Carmen. Unless anything has changed over the last few years!

Ocean Maya by H10 - we went with TUI so it included the flights and transfers. We just had a standard room but the premium ones had jacuzzi baths and access to a private part of the beach - so if it’s looking around £4,600 for this September for 14 nights.. the £6000 for 10 nights next year is probably in the right ball park with the upgrades, but could be cheaper if you shop around.

Also saw your comments about the seaweed - yes there quite a lot washing up on the beach at this resort but when we went to a different beach on an excursion to swim with turtles it was completely clear so guess it depends where you are!

I've just booked our honeymoon for September 2023 so I don't think it's too early to book. We've booked to go to the Amalfi coast in Italy.
