Is there a way to get rid of mould on window seals?

SAM83, 24 November, 2008 at 08:33 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 9

Because of severe condensation and damp (which has now been sorted) our spare room has green mould on the white plastic bits in the corner of the window. Is there any way I can get rid of it? Thanks

Have you tried a bleach solution?

Ah, I see. I'd start with just a damp cloth and see if it wipes off. Then bleach solution if it has stained. You just have to be careful of drips on any carpets <speaks from experience>

You can buy mould and mildew remover in a spray bottle from the supermarket. I think it is for use in bathrooms on tiles, but no doubt would do the same job on a window seal?

Thanks Kegsey. Will try bleach. I have tried wiping it with a damp cloth but that hasnt done nothing. I meant I had tried any sprays/solutions etc. Will be mindful of the carpet!

RoseyRO - thanks will have a look in Tesco tomorrow when I am shopping.

B&Q have a really good uPVC cleaner, we've used it when we've had the same problem.

Detol mould and mildew remover is really good, it's surprised me a few times in what it can remove.

Buy some domestos grot buster, it's brilliant stuff.

I've done our windows, round the shower/bath and it's come up really well. It's got a little pouring nozzle so you can direct it at the bits that need it rather than the whole area and I leave it for a few hours (over night) and wash it down the next day...sparkly!
