Is this really expensive for takeaway chinese?

Hitcher, 7 of November of 2008 at 22:07 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 23

Got chinese tonight, only have their number, no menu and they haveno website so cant check prices.

1 x special fried rice

1x chicken black bean

2 x chips

TOTAL - 17.10!

Is it just me but is this not really expensive, serves me right for not checking the price when on phone but didnt expect it to be this much!

No, it's not you. Call them back and ask them to clarify the price... I can get more chinese for that price from my takeaway place and that's no delivery charge either.

How far away from you are they?

That's pretty expensive. that would set you back maybe £12 or 13 from the takeaway I use. Maybe another quid for delivery. Hope it was good!

    Erm, I would expect SPF - £3.50, Chicken - £5.40, Chips - 1.50 each, so that's 11.90, and the answer is yes!

Yes but we had a chinese last night and thought it was really pricey. We got thai fried rice, a chicken chow mein, sweet and sour sauce and some chicken wings for 17 quid.

Yours is way more pricey though I would double check that!

£6.50 for rice ? Thats very, very expensive

I was pricing up how much we would pay for that.

    Rice is about £1.50

    Chicken £6 ish

    Chips about £1.40 each

Just realised it was special fried rice, was that with prawn, peas, meat in? If so it would prob be charged as much as the chicken where we go,maybe slightly less.

I've just come on here after friends have left and saw this. We had a chinese takeaway tonight (delivered) and we had:

    1 spring rolls

    1 barbecued spare ribs

1 sweet and sour chicken with fried rice

    1 chicken fried rice

    1 chicken chow mein

1 schezaun (?) chicken with fried rice

    1 sausage and chips

    1 mushrooms

    1 beansprouts

    1 curry sauce

    1 chips

and loads of prawn crackers for £26.00. It's a fab takeaway, always really busy, and owned by the restaurant next door which is always heaving.

SFR is a main course dish though, isn't it? So £6 or so doesn't seem excessive. It's not comparable with a side dish of rice.

As to whether it's over-priced- it depends on so many factors (where you live, what the quality's like etc) that it's not really possible to answer. I've never found a Chinese takeaway that wasn't greasy and disgusting, although I love Chinese food, so I'd happily pay £17 or more for a decent one.

We paid just over £22 last night for salt and pepper spare ribs, vegetable foo yung with chips, chicken in chilli and garlic oil with fried rice and sweet and sour chicken with soft fried noodles. It was fab and we got prawn crackers free. SFR at our local takeaway is about £5.50. I am in the NW of England.

    In Doncaster

Special Fried Rice is £4.20 but it comes with prawns, chicken, pork & peas

    Black bean is £3.50

    Chips are £1.10 each X 2

It would have cost you £9.90.

I don't think I've ever seen a chinese which sells the kinds of non chinese food some people have had here (sausage, curry sauce, chips)

I'm also not too keen on take away chinese but i love noodles and they are generally fine as a take away. A noodle dish is about £8 in ours, so similar to your SFR. Thats central London though.

We're in Herts and everything seems more expensive here, however our Chinese is very good and cheaper than yours.

SFR is £4.50, chicken in black bean is £4.00. They don't seem to have chips on their own on the menu but with an omlette they are £3.

Last night we had, sesame prawn toast (4 big bits) 1/2 a crispy aromatic duck with pancakes sauce, veg etc, egg fried rice, sweet and sour chicken hong kong style, and special chow mein for £25 and with free prawn crackers and free spring rolls - about 10 mini ones in a bag which on the menu is £3

They do £1 delivery within 5 miles for orders over £8. And free delivery over £20 orders.

I'm now wishing I ordered chinese instead of making toad in the hole! ?

Chicken with black bean is £4.50, SFR is about £3.50 and my chinese doesn't serve chips. But prawn crackers are about £1.50 and they're normally about the same price I think. So yes it's pricey. Our local chinese is a gorgeous restaurant with fab takeaway and you get 25% off if you collect before 7.30 Bargain!
