is this worth £600?

DrBuffles, 19 February, 2014 at 11:09 Posted on Planning 0 59

Whilst googling my venue to get inspiration I came across this image. I contacted the supplier for a quote and it's £600. They put it up and take it down for us.

Do you think it's worth it? I'm blinded by how pretty it is and can't make a rational decision!

It's beautiful but I wouldn't pay £600 for it. I think once your tables have their centrepieces on (which could involve some sort of fairy lights in vases) it would give enough wow factor.

That looks very much like our venue! They have those lights up permanently at ours so we're very fortunate in that we get them included. I had read reviews of previous brides that had to pay to have them on but the venue changed the policy in the last year or so. I love them but don't think I could have paid £600 to have them, despite how pretty it looks! I'd rather put the money towards the honeymoon!

It is gorgeous but i would not pay £600 for it, you could buy so much for that £600

Hardly anything is worth what you pay for it in wedding world. I think it looks beautiful if you think it will really set the venue off and it won't break your budget go for it. Try to get a few quotes though

Ahh balls. I'm also blinded by the prettiness.

I would get some more quotes and try and haggle on that one. It does look lovely but £600 is a lot of money. £300 I'd be saying do it.

I agree with everyone else, £600 is just that bit too much I think. I reckon you could haggle. I now though (thank you) have fallen in love with these and need to know what to google to see if I can get some!! x

Good thinking everyone! I've got my rational hat back on and I've contacted another venue dresser that works very closely with my florist to see if she can do it. I've sent her the picture and see what she comes back with.

I will haggle but not sure if I can get it for half price. Might send the OH in, he is excellent in uncomfortable haggling situations!

PureAnnie - All i did was google image search my venue and this popped up. It's called a fairly light canopy. The website is http://www.clairejayne.co.uk/ and she is Bristol based. They do all the big lit up letters and other things too. If that's not local to you I'm sure she isn't the only place in the country that does it.

I'm on a mission now! I'm like a woman possessed when this happens!

Could you not try to DIY it? Looking at it, maybe a circular piece of wooden dowelling from Hobby craftand then strips of fairy lights?

Normally I would but we aren't allowed in the venue until 10 on the day of the wedding and we have to be out that night.

When I contacted the supplier she said they put it up the day before and take it down after. I questioned it because they have weddings on the Friday and Sunday either side of mine and she said they go in at 1am to do it. Apparently it takes hours to do. I can imagine it does because the ceiling is really high.

Argh, I too am blinded by the prettiness.

Here's what I would have done:

    1. Not haggled - I didn't do any, not very good at it, I cave too easily.

    2. Rationalised that £600 is too much for some fairy lights.

    3. Booked it one night while pissed.

    4. Thought no more about it.

    5. Told Boy that it came with the venue.

I'm pretending I wouldn't do anything like this. In reality it's a highly likely.

    Ahh, Kingscote barn....

Well yes, if it's a centerpiece then it's worth it. (budget dependent) We've spent £250 on pompoms and probably haven't stopped there.

I love Kingscote barn, would have been my dream venue if we'd have had the budget. I think the venue is pretty enough without the lights.

Yes it is Kingscote! We fell in love with it - didn't look anywhere else!

My google search was spurred on by the worry we won't have enough decoration around so maybe I could justify it by thinking I'm not spending a huge amount on other things *cough pom poms cough* . It is literally just our flowers in vases, some t-lights and some cork letter decorations I've done. Minimal and elegant.

I went to a wedding at the weekend and it was beautiful in that it was one of my closest friends so I was overwhelmed by how happy I was for them but she could have done more in terms of wow factor.

I want people to be seriously impressed by how stunning our wedding is. Shallow I know but I'm only going to do this once!

    Oh my gosh it's beautiful!

If I could afford it then I would seriously consider it.

Saying that, if you incorporated fairy lights around the beams, along the balcony etc it will still look beautiful.

    Argh! Constant venue jealousy!

I get butterflies every time I see pictures of it! It' a good job I don't live locally or I'd be hanging around every weekend looking at weddings there!

That night time image is so beautiful!

How many do you need? Are we talking for your dining room at home or do you need a whole venue's worth? My car is fairly small! Maybe if I ask each guest to take their own home then you collect at a later date!

I really liked the half length lace chair covers on every other chair too. Only seen that once in 5 years.

Yes I liked these too. A nice change from the usual bows.

I am having a strictly no rustic/vintage wedding so not suitable for our theme but I wish I could come up with something as lovely that are theme appropriate!

I can't see the pic of the lace chair covers, but they sound similar to what I've got for the top table. I lothe the traditional stretchy chair covers and sashes. I know they are popular but ?

You don't need to do anything with those chairs though - they are perfect. (Chairs are a subject close to my heart!)

Lace chair covers. I think these are by the venue dressers that work with my florist. They have some gorgeous things.

I'm seriously on the verge of booking it and this is without a wine. I shall sleep on it but I suspect my view will be the same tomorrow.

If it takes hours then I'd say £600 is perfectly reasonable. It'll be at least a 2 person job for a minimum of a 4 hour call, in the middle of the night,, two nights in a row don't know about the rest of you but I wouldn't get out my bed for less than £150 per night, plus maintanance cost, and cost of delivery.

Yeah, it is a lot for some fairy lights but it's not really the lights that you're paying for....
