Italy Wedding help & guest accomodation

Samantha, 30 June, 2022 at 16:36 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 1 9

Hey! recently engaged so new here!

Before being engaged my boyfriend and I had always spoken about an Italian wedding. For weather, atmosphere, surroundings and most importantly food and drink!

Ideally we would have a small wedding of approx 30. The idea we had was Tuscany, cypress trees, rolling hills, twinkly lights, relaxxed atmosphere. Very open to anywhere else in Italy also. The ideal would be to hire somewhere for everyone to stay (farm house, castle) for 3/4 nights one being the wedding day and night. Get everyone aqquainted and a mini holiday for all, we would cover the cost of this as they all have to fly from UK etc. Looking at costs, i am now thinking this may not be an option if we want to get married soon.

Firstly, has anyone got any reccomendations, no matter the budget because if its perfect we'll just have to save longer.

Secondly, Is it the done thing that we pay for alls accomodation? my boyfriend is adament we do, but then how far does it go. would it be cheeky to perhaps say ''if you want to secure a room in the villa we are staying £50 per room per night'' for example. We attended a wedding in Barbados for 7nights and although it was pricey for us, that was our holiday and i was over the moon to even be invited!

Any reccomendations and advice welcome Smiley smile

    @Samantha It sounds really lovely!

Although it might feel like a stretch, I think you'll never regret paying for the accommodation for your guests. People will be grateful, more likely to come, and it will be a lovely memory to look back on.

In practice, people might even end up being more generous in their gifts too and you won't be out of pocket, but you can't count on that.

I've been to a couple of weddings where I had to travel from abroad and would have really struggled unless accommodation had been organised for me. If you don't, there's the risk that people will begrudge it, and you'll feel the resentment even if they don't tell you. And I think you'll feel better about yourself and the event too.

We had our honeymoon in Venice & Sicily, both of which were wonderful, but neither of which I would recommend for the purpose you describe. However, if you're already in Italy, I'd recommend them as honeymoon destinations after the wedding!

Thank-you so much for answering! It's good to have others opinions also, and I do understand what you mean, as we have a few guests who have moaned to us about some UK weddings previously.. but then i also don't want to pay for everything, and then some people are there for the wrong reasons, i'm so undecided.

Regarding gifts, our close friends and parents have said 'surely you're not paying for all of it thats too much' so you're probably right. I think i would also feel happier inviting people, having paid for accomodation, food etc, then i dont feel guilty myself, and dodge the resentment from others

I never realized how tricky it would be till actually planning!

Thankyou for the honeymoon recommendations as this is exactly what we'd love to do! it makes sense to go off travelling onces the celebrations are over Smiley smile xx

No it's not common to pay for all your guest's accommodation - you could perhaps offer a discount/offer to pay for one night but you definitely don't need to pay for it all! I've been to around 8 destination weddings and paid accommodation at each one.

We are also getting married in Italy but are undecided whether we can a place where everyone can stay and or just the venue and guests arrange their own accomodation.

There's an amazing FB group for getting married in Italy tips but not sure I'm allowed to post it on here? x

I'll have a look thankyou! we think we've found the place, we'll be going over in Sept to check a few out in person. All our friends who we hope would come, don't know eachother, then we have a few single people one including my dad. So the idea was for everyone to be together for a day or 2 prior to the wedding to get aquainted, so a big villa for all is our thoughts. Most the couples have children (not inviting children) and some dont travel much, so i think we're swaying towards paying for everyone. We've found a few places where if you rent for 3 nights or more theres no wedding fee and someone is onhand to help the day run smooth so doesnt make that much difference in cost.

I didnt realize how tricky this would be! lol. My dad gave me his blessing to elope just the 2 of us so that still plays very much on my mind and might happen! lol

Where are you looking at? xx

    Hey,

We are getting married in Italy next month! We haven’t paid for anyone’s accommodation and no-one expected us too. We are paying for a boat trip and pizza party the day before but then it’s just the usual wedding. One thing to say is Italy is expensive for weddings, it’s significantly cheaper than a wedding in Spain or Greece but if you don’t have a tight budget then you should go for it
