Ive never met anyone as unphotogenic as me

josie, 29 May, 2009 at 15:14 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 16

Theres a piece about the charity skydive im doing in our local paper today along with a photo of me and my two sons. I know Im no oil painting but I look terrible. I look like Ive not slept for at least a week. Either the photo they chose was the best of a bad lot (if it was I dread to think how bad I looked on the others!) or they are having a laugh at my expense.

Oo - meet me! I know I'm fat, but when i look at my face in the mirror it doesn't look too bad - I even quite like it on some days. THen i see a photo of me and i wonder how it's possible to look so hideous, and be so wrong about something. I feel like a photographic version of the people who are convinced they are brilliant singers and apply for X-factor, when in reality they are tonedeaf.

You haven't met me. The only decent photo of me are self portraits that I've done and edited to buggery. I ususally cry when I see other people's pictures of me because i look so awful - many chins, hunch back, flared nostrils. II feel sad just thinking about it. ?

    Or me......

I've never seen a pic of me that I like, they're all hideous.

Getting married in two weeks and dreading all the pictures, although hoping a pro may manage to make me look half decent??!

Or me.... I was physically sick when I had to go get our wedding photos but the man reassured me that as it was digital he was able to do all manner of lovely things to me!.. I've been in the paper a few times, once was a hidiously close up of my face in my police hat and it was just cringworthy. Of course it got photocopied and banded round the station for what felt like 3 years with caption competitions attached. It was just so wrong.

The opposite of peanut actually. The only decent photo I have ever had taken was when i took on a new beat in Essex. The local paper took my photo by the duck pond on the village green- I looked absolutely gorgeous.

Needless to say it was my hitched member photo (and still is if we still have such a thing).

I don't know how but it looks how I think I look but better- all other photos look hideous and not how I imagine myself at all.

WFtGS! It's so depressing, you go out thinking you look ok, sometimes even good, then you see a picture and the exact opposite is true! ?

My sister, to add insult to injury, is the exact opposite. Tiny, pretty and so photogenic, never see a bad picture of her! Hmph!

Only time I willingly allow photos to be taken of me is when I'm riding as I tend to be enjoying myself and it shows, so the result is a better picture. (plus I like having pictures of what my pony and I are getting up to!) It was the same with my wedding photos, probably the best photos I've seen of me as a) they were taken by a pro and b) I was happy, enjoying meyself and more interested in laughing and talking to people than "grimacing" for the camera. If you're more relaxed you take a better photo.

Fig Jam you have just reminded me, my sister is the same, small, thin, gorgeous and to add insult I was informed by my mum that my sister just doesn't seem to age... thanks mum is all I could muster before I wanted to cry

I'm sure she meant to add a compliment in there for you too! ?

My Mum once said she thinks that although she agreed with me that I look better in real life than in photos, she felt my sister looked better in photos than in real life! ? I was always a littel puzzled as to which way around is best?! If you're better in real life than photos, that's great for you and people you know directly as people see you in real life more than in photos. But if the other way around, not so good for indirect people who may only ever know you as "someone in a photo" and always have that impression of you! ? Not sure if that makes any sense, but it does in my head! ?

    I am the same also.

I go out thinking I look quite reasonable and presentable, and then when I see pictures of myself I resemble something from the hills have eyes. My mouth seems to go all lopsided and my face looks twisted! ? The mirror must lie.

Tis not attractive at all, poor H!

I could have wrote the same thing word for word.

There was only one of my wedding Photos I actually liked of myself & the majority of photographs taken of me on our own camera usually get deleted as soon as I see them

Me too, but can I give you some comfort on the wedding front? I was dreading the wedding, not only professional photographer but also loads of friends with cameras = my worst nightmare, MrSC has a hard enough time getting a photo when it's just the two of us (although with digi cameras at least I can delete the very worst ones!).

However on the day I was the most relaxed calm happy bride ever (having been a total bridezilla for the month before) and couldn't have cared less about all the posing I had to do. Some of my favourites are ones taken by friends rather than professionals - different angles on posed ones etc - so maybe have a couple of friends do slightly less official ones as well? Anyway hopefully you will be the same as me and it will all be fine!

    God we're a fugly lot ?

I hated the idea of wedding photos too, and actually didn't like many of the pro ones at all. But an old family friend was an excellent photographer, and he took a lot of photos in between the pro shots, so we are all in the same poses and groups, but much more relaxed, and his are much, much better.

And me. I have never, ever seen a nice photo of me-not even my wedding pics. In fact, the only ones I`ve had framed are those where my face is hidden either by a veil, or is side on. It`s so depressing!! It always puts me on a downer when I see a pic of myself-and I don`t think I`m that ugly, just incredibly un-photogenic (mind you, they do say the camera never lies....)

Same here. I've been told by more than one person that I'm quite plain jane until I smile and then my whole face lights up and I become quite attractive, so I always try to be smiling for photos which shows off my double chin, squinty eyes and chubby cheeks beautifully.

? Another joining the fugly-photographs bench. I hate having my photo taken so much that we didn't even have a wedding photographer. Wish I bloody had, though, as a lovely friend and guest took loads and made an un-edited DVD for us. I cried. A lot.

It's such a shame, as I often see photos of friends looking natural and smiley and think I want some photos of myself like that. Bah.
