BIG Brother legend Jade Goody has cervical cancer, it was revealed last night.

The mum of two, 27, received the bombshell news as she was appearing in the Indian version of the reality TV show.

Jade told housemates “I have cancer” after the devastating news was broken to her in the diary room of the show’s Indian version.

The star was in hysterics as she made the announcement.

She was immediately withdrawn from the programme and was last night being flown home for treatment.

I think it's very sad and wouldn't wish it upon anyone, but why if you had had tests and waiting results, then fly half way across the world and then be told live by "big brother" that you had cancer.

Hope she is ok and they have caught it early, but just an odd way of going about it.

She was only in hospital after collapsing and bleeding last week, why on earth would her agents let her fly to India? And what a way to tell her.

Possibly in her own mind she just didn't want to put her life on hold whilst waiting around. According to the article she'd been given the all clear after previous scares, so perhaps she's been telling herself that this would be the same. I doubt that she would be thinking as clearly as those around her that are supposed to 'advise' her and look after her best interests. Of course, this is all speculation, but it's sad stuff.

I'm shocked she has womb cancer at 27, she's still so young.

And I think it's an awful way for her to be told. She should have been taken out of the house and told then.

    That's awful.

I suppose we don't have the facts, maybe she was so desperate to make a mends that she insisted on going, probably not thinking she had something as serious as cervical cancer. Like someone has already said, she's not exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer.

How appalling for her, that's shocking news.

But the way it's been handled in the media is leaving a very, very bad taste. FFS why tell her in the house? Why even make it public before she's back in the UK and being treated? It's a freak show.

Fwiw, it wasn't 'big brother' who gave her the news. She was called to the diary room and her agent told her. It won't be broadcast and she was removed from the house immediately.

Her going there was ill thought out while waiting on her results, her 'people' need to take responsibility for that. Poor Jade though, she must be very frightened. I hope she makes a speedy recovery.

<cynical> Do you think it's possible that this was a vast publicity stunt? So far as I know, it would be a serious breach of her right to confidentiality to broadcast that information about her health without her prior consent and we know that BB contestants do not get editing veto while in the house.

Just a thought. While I am horrified that she is ill, and wish her the very best for a speedy recovery, I can't help wondering...

I am also extremely cynical at the timing surrounding this announcement. I doubt the editing veto thing is relevant in this instance, but I find it hard to believe the circumstances around this news

Well I wondered if she actually has cancer or if she has pre-cancerous cells - you know how much confusion there is over smear test results. For once I sincerely hope my cynicism is justified.

I'm glad I'm not the only one with a cynical mind about this.

That said, I wish her well.

Oh, I am sorry to hear that.

I do agree it all sounds a bit odd the way it's been handled, and believe me I'm no JG fan so it's easy to think the worst and be cynical, but I suppose we don't know how other people react to situations like this - she might have had the tests in some kind of denial that there could possibly be anything wrong. I hope she gets through this.

I've actually got to be thankful for this thread, as it's just reminded me that I needed to book my retest as my last smear came out abnormal.

I'm booked in for next thursday ?

I think the JG story has been dealt with very badly. I hope she comes out ok at the end of all this!

Maybe she wasn't in denial as such, perhaps she's just gone for routine tests and assumed all was well.

obviously though she would need to be told asap as it was bad news, and maybe she'd allowed the hospital to pass any news on to her agent.

i'm not a fan of the girl but obviously hope it's not as bad as it seems and she can get treatment.

I was the same as La P, it took about a week for me to realise I had cancer, I hope she gets sorted soon. I was lucky enough to have finished having my children, it must be harder for someone who hasn't finished having their family.

A girl in the next village to us died of it in her teens. She went off to the US to be an au pair and never came home ☹️

She has apparently given her permission for the diary room footage to be shown

I'm puzzled as to why they would record this ?

I'm confused why she would want to make it public so quickly. In her shoes, I would want time to come to terms with it myself before I went public, if I did make it known at all.

That said, I wish her well.

My H is very cynical as she gave her permikssion for the footage to be broadcast and said he will wait for the book in a couple of months about her battle with cancer.

I do hope she gets well soon.

Well cynicism aside, this has really hit home to me how young she is, so I've finally booked a test.I'm 3 years overdue because I am so embarrassed about going, and even the smear posts by Hitchers haven't persuaded me to go, but I'm 3 years older than Jade and she has it.

I'm booked for Friday and I will go.Although I'm now nervous that it's been so long and there might be something wrong.

Blimey, 27 is very young. I hope she gets prompt treatment and makes a speedy recovery. Cervical cancer has got a very good success statistics if detected and treated early ( I believe around 87%)

We all react differently I guess. Like LP, when I was told I in fact had cervical cancer, following prior treatment for CIN3 Dyskarosis (abnormal cells) -just 4 weeks before my wedding last year, I was like "Fuck that, I have a wedding to plan!" It was later that it really hit me. I negotiated to have surgery when I returned from honeymoon.

I haven't completed my family, and I have been told that my treatment has likely not affected my fertility. Sadly, I have recently miscarried my H's baby for the second time (first time was in 2006). I am 40 next year, so time is not on my side. However, I am mindful that unlike others' I didn't have to have a hysterectomy and prematurely have the choice taken from me. I really feel for those who are or have been in that position.

    Fucking hell, chick!!

I dunno why, but I had always assumed you had Ovarian Cancer (my mother succumbed to this at 43)

If I had a daughter, she would definitely have the HPV Vaccination.

I had very similar op to La P, I will also be having my daughter vaccinated in the autumn (she's in year 8). I was 37 and my consultant said, in the number he diagnoses I was quite old. As others have said the recovery rate is good, but to me, it took away alot of what to me made me a woman. I think a lot of women grieve quite a lot after the op.

Whilst I don't doubt she's ill, I do think her 'people' have manufactured a huge publicity stunt around it all. It wouldn't even surprise me if she knew prior to flying to India, but she was pursuaded to do it for the attention it would get her to be 'told' on live TV.

I'm just hoping that this won't be used as publicity for her - and that she'll deal with it with her family and out of the spotlight (a la Kylie). It is disrespectful to all those with cancer to use it to generate sympathy.
