About 18 months ago I posted on here that the woman in a shop near work had told me I look like "that girl of Big Brother....[brief pause whilst I thought maybe she meant one of the cute ones...] oh yes Jade".
Having in mind Jade as the kebab-bellied ming-er from her first appearance on the BB show I was totally mortified, but people on here pointed out that she was actually looking quite good at the time, nice hair, lost some weight, so I stopped being mortally offended and got over myself.
However.
Today I went back into the same shop. The same woman served me, and bearing in mind that she hasn't mentioned my apparent resemblence to Jade or my doppelganger herself ONCE since then (in fact she hasn't said anything to me and I've been pregnant and gone in there with my baby in that time, surely things that someone might comment about) ... she then pointed to a copy of OK magazine on the counter, featuring Jade's wedding and said with a laugh "see, your lookalike is sick!".
I was totally gobsmacked. Still am. Such an odd odd thing to say for so many. I am struggling to explain how peculiar the whole thing feels. It's not the lookylikey thing, you know *whatever*, I don't think I look or talk like her at all (I'm RP with a slight South London twang for a start), nobody I've asked does incidentally. It's the laughing and the sudden need to refer to a high profile dying woman in such a random way. Why do people act like that?
