*** - Just booked holiday in wrong name

Jords, 4 May, 2009 at 15:18 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 17

Gah ?

So my passport is still in my maiden name but I've just booked my holiday in my married name. As I've done it online and it being bank holiday I can't get through to the company. I've sent them an email (and will hopefully remember to try phoning them tomorrow) but, if for some reason they can't change the booking - can I just take my marriage cert showing the change of name?

(Hols are booked for a couple of weeks time for half term - yay me!)

Cheers

You could get a passport in your married name? You'll have to do it sooner or later anyway I guess.

Why dont you just go and get a new passport, knowing holiday companies they are likely to charge yo o change the name on the booking so might actually turn out cheaper! i'm pretty sure the pasport office can process a new passport in a couple of weeks. they have all the information on their website.

We did this. Rang passport people they said either change passport or name on ticket - marriage cert wont do. So we changed ticket. At 35 quid it was cheaper than forking out for a passport which still has 3 years left on it!

It's £72 for a new passport, so I'd think that £35 is better than that

Also the holiday is in 2 1/2 weeks so changing the passport name is pretty nail biting.

Will try phoning the company again. I've only just booked it so they shouldn't really be processing it that quickly!

    What a complete f*wit I am!

    Thanks x

Be prepared to pay to change the name on the tickets , no matter how recently you booked it. If they can charge you, they will! Good luck - hope it's straightforward for you.

Thanks - I've phoned them up and they've said "admin will phone you back."

Can't believe I've just had brain fade on that one - what a complete and utter doofus.

My own fault - H was just about to book for the 3 of us to go to Japan (but we'd have to leave eldest at his grandparents as it would have been last week at school) so I had just bottled it and said I couldn't go and booked to go on holiday (without H as he'd still be in Japan) with the money instead. Just wasn't thinking ?

    Thanks all x

I did this with Thomson! Just rang them up and changed the name rather than forkking out for a passport, they also did it for free as it wasnt a total change in person iyswim, was v easy. You just odnt want them to print the tickets yet, eek!!!!! If they cant do it, you could go to a passport office and get a same day passport, but again v expensive! Good luck xx

My credit card, used for booing tickets, has me as Old Nick Esq, My passport has me as Old Nicholas Esquire, I once spent 45 minutes arguing the toss about that.

I got on the flight, but part of the reason behind that was being known to the airport security staff who came to find out what was going on.

I did this and ended up changing my passport instead. It was expensive but I got a fab service from the Home Office's emergency service and it means I'm not in any danger of making the same mistake again. Hope you get it sorted, good luck.

Somone else booked me a flight and it was in my married name, passport in maiden name - I took my marriage cert and it was fine. Can't see why it wouldn't be tbh.

Mambo - when was that, domestic or international. If it was within the last 5 years and international than the airline could actually have been fined around £2000 for that.

Just confirm the general consensus your tickets and passport must match - no way round it i'm afraid. Oh, and you do know they will transfer what's left on your passport to the new one - I ended up with 15 year passport when changed to married name

They don't give you what is left on your passport! My maiden name passport had 7 years left on it but I only got an extra 9 months on my new passport.

I really don't think you'll be able to do it, I think you'll need a new passport, sorry.

Ah, it was domestic - the fact the rules are different is crazy though, surely security is security no matter what?

I didn't know they added the extra years to a new passport - that's why I haven't changed mine yet. We aren't planning an international trip until October so I might get that done now.

I changed my passport last year to my married name and I only got a few months added onto it despite having about 6 years left on my old passport.

My Dad did this recently, he booked a flight for my Mum and two of her sisters one had got married but not changed her passport and dad booked in her married name. There was quite a difference before they realsied but when he called they were happy to change it without charge - think this was monarch. Aunt took wedding cert just in case.

H also did this a while back, booked two tickets in his name rather than one in mine! When confirmation came through I called them Jet2 this time and explained. They started off saying it would be £30 to change and as the fair had gone up another £50! (It had been a bargain fair to start) but when I pleaded saying it was obviously an error and was there any way they could lower that cost she went to speak to her supervisor and it was changed free of charge. So you never know good luck!

I might be able to argue the toss with them as as soon as I had realised I sent an email and after I hadn't heard anything for an hour, I phoned them up. They said the would phone me back and I'm still waiting. So maybe I could argue that with them if they try and additional charges etc.

    Thanks all x
