'Just us' wedding in Mauritius. Video or no video?

jimmyeatworld, 22 January, 2014 at 09:49 Posted on Planning 0 9

Hi Everyone,

My fiance and I are getting married in Mauritius in May this year - just the two of us, no guests. We've hired a great photographer, so we know we'll have lots of lovely photos to keep, and to show friends and family back home. Up to this point we hadn't considered having a video of the wedding. However, I keep reading that not having a video is the top regret of lots of married couples, and it's making me wonder whether we should have one done.

As quite shy and self-conscious people, we can just about cope with a photographer, but I'm not sure how we would feel about having a videographer there too, especially when it will be so concentrated on just the two of us (no guests to film). I also worry that having an extra person there would spoil the intimate, romantic feel of our day, which is one of the main reasons we are getting married in this way. Having no guests also means that there is probably less to film, and I'm not sure how many times we would watch the video. I know my friends and family would probably enjoy the video, but to be honest I would be happy just showing them our lovely photos, so that won't really influence my decision.

Having said all this, our photographer's company could offer videography within our budget and their videos look very nice, so I'm just wary of turning it down and then living to regret it!

Does anyone have any advice? It would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

J x

We're getting married just us two in May -we're not even having a photographer.. I feel video would be a waste, you'd watch it what, once or twice then forget about it.

Thanks for your reply. To be honest I'm that self-conscious I don't think I'd want to sit and watch the video with my family/friends! Haha. As for witnesses, the hotel provides these. I think it's usually a couple of members of staff.

Reading everyones comments about how they regret not having a videographer does make me question our decision not to have one but we are sticking to our decision.

We are both kind of shy and I have terrible posture. As much as I will trying my hardest to stand up straight all day I would hate to look back and see myself slouching.

I would probably over analyse every frame!

My OH really doesn't want to be filmed doing his speech and my dad has a terrible stutter so extra pressure probably wont help the matter!

If I were in your situation I wouldn't get one done. Or if I did, I would just get them to film the ceremony and that's all. That way I can share that with everyone but not have to worry about it after. They can get some GVs from the area to put with it and still make it look nice.

I got married last year and I'm really glad I had my day video'ed. It just flew by so quickly so I was really glad to be able to watch the key moments again.

Obviously I love photos but a good video compliments your day

We're not having one - I don't want to watch myself get married and all of our families and friends will be there. However, in your situation I might be tempted. That way your friends and family could actually see the ceremony.

Hmmm it could go either way, it seems like as it's in budget it would be a shame not to have it, at least it's there and there's no regrets even if you never watched it

I am a complete VOG convert. We wasnt going to have one in the beginning because of the price but after reading so many people regretting it / watching videos online i completly changed my mind and booked one.

We have ours from Thurs - Mon so we can film all the build up / nect day too. I am so excited. So many people say it goes so quickly i see it as a way of holding on. Plus we have two camera, so ill be able to see what OH got up to in the morning and all the bits i missed during the day.

Personally if it was me i would go for it, it would be lovely for you to be able to show family & friends. I know you will have photographs but even if you just filmed the ceremony maybe?

Good luck with what you choose, i love that its just the two of you.
