Karin Slaughter - Skin Privilege (Spoilers)

HeidiHole, 16 September, 2008 at 09:47 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 21

What! WHAT!

After dragging myself through this book as if it were a cold bowl of porridge until it got exciting two chapters from the end, she does that on the last page? Seriously?

Gaaaah, I was so mad I couldn't sleep after I finished it last night ?

You might want to pop a spoiler warning on here!

I was pretty bored through most of the book tbh - I can't be doing with drugs and gangs in crime novels, I only persevered because it was a Sara/Jeffrey one. And then - OMG!!!

Did you go to the website with the letter explaining why she's done it? You have to go through about 10 screens warning you about spoilers before you can read it! It does say the next book will start 3 years after the events of this one.

I gave up on that one on honeymoon I was so bored. I wish I perservered now.

Unfortunately I left it in some random Lao guesthouse Boo and indeed hiss.

I thought the book was quite slow as well, it took me ages to read it because I kept picking it up and putting it down.

It's bad enough she did what she did, but the graphic detail! I've seen the letter, apparently the new Grant County book is due for release 2009.

Am still in shock, can I complain to a favourite characters society or something ?

It's ages since I read this book and although I can vaguely remember what happens, I don't remember the ending! Someone tell me please?

Ok, am going to post the ending, stop reading now if anyone is still peeking ?

They get back to Grant County and Sarah gets a phone call saying they've been given a 9 month old baby boy. Jeffery comes back and she tells him, they're all happy and thrilled and loved up. Sarah tells Jeffery to go to the mail box to get the post, he opens the mail box and KABOOM! Chest blown open, arm severed, one dead Jeffery.

Ethan Green had told him to watch his mailbox...

I can't believe that she'd do for Jeffrey. I think that somehow he'll be ok and have a bionic arm in the next book. I recently ready triptych (sp) which is a non Jeffrey and Sara book and it was great, better than the Grant County ones imho.

https://www.karinslaughter.com/letter/ It's not all going to be ok ... no bionic arms etc ...

Triptych, sorry, it was awful. Nowhere near the quality of the Grant County series. It was painfully obvious what was going on and the reveal was too early regardless.

Jeffrey is definitely a goner, dead as a dodo, he is a deceased Jeffrey ?

I still can't believe she killed him off, but am looking forward to seeing how she goes forward with it.

I haven't read Tryptich, is it worth it?

Gah, I threw my copy of the book across the room when i read the end of it. I just couldn't believe it! I read the reason why she did ti, but really, to Jeffrey? I was just starting to get to know the characters quite well, and then, well... Smiley sad

Can't wait until the next one, I will be intrigued to see how she goes on from here.

See my previous post - NO.

Although that's just my opinion, several on here think it was great, so perhaps you should just to make your mind up?!

I really liked it, its worth a go. I would have been much happier if she'd killed off Lena, I know that she's had a lot of bad things happen to her but she is quite annoying.

Thank goodness someone else thinks that! I was getting so fed up of Lena by the last book. I know that a lot of women still love their abusers and in that respect Lena was probably very realistic - but I was so frustrated with her, and hated Ethan so much, that I just got fed up with her by the end.

I completely agree with the whole Lena situation. I could never see why she was wheeled in even when she'd left the PD.

Yep, I have no sympathy with Lena as a character, despite all the awful things that have happened to her.

I also think the story surrounding her mother was sort of glossed over in Skin Privilege and not really thought out properly.
