Keeping clothes to slim into them?

Redbedhead, 18 February, 2009 at 11:55 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 15

I have just been going through my wardrobe and there are so many things in there that no longer fit me, or in some cases have never been worn because they have always been too small.

Am I the only ones that does this? I have had to be ruthless and put some of the things out for the charity as it was getting such that I couldn't find things that fit anymore.

I've got two items - both expensive pairs of jeans - that I am determined to slim back into but everything else is the right size for me. I've got rid of anything that was a size bigger too so there was no chance I'd ever put on weight either. But I won't get rid of those jeans. I will get back into them. Realistically when though, is another matter. ?

If something had never fit, I would ditch, but if there was a realistic chance of being able to wear it again I'd hang on to it.

I have quite a few that are a dress size too small, any smaller than that then they've gone. A dress size I know is achievable. Also anything that I'll never wear again even if I do slim into them is gone. So I've mainly kept jeans and fitted shirts which I know suit me.

You are definitely not the only one. lol

I have also had to be ruthless and think ok now am i really ever gonna wear of fit in to it again. Its haaaarrrd.?

But i am def getting better at being ruthless. I need to! As i tend to be a general hoarder. lol?

Although, when i am trying to lose weight, which i am at the moment, i do use clothes to measure my progress. Rather than just the scales.

Clothes that i used to wear a lot but dont fit anymore, give me great motivation when i find myself fitting back into them.

I've got a couple of bits from last summer in a suitcase that I will get back into this year but other than that, no. Even if I have slimmed back into clothes before I find I don't actually like them when I'm able to wear them again.

There is a realistic chance of fitting in it again but probably not for a good couple of years as some of the items are 3 sizes smaller than I am at the moment and although I would like to think I could lose that weight before I am pregnant again, I really doubt it.

This was the other thing I was thinking. The only things I have kept are basic suits that are within 2 sizes of what I am currently.

I have a few pairs of trousers that I had got too big for. There was one pair of size 18's that I had loved, and it was such a nice feeling being able to get back into them. Got a couple of 16's in the wardrobe too, which I hope to get into before ym hol in May.

Had ditched all the stuff smaller than that which is a shame, but gives me an excuse to shop

I would say keep anything you genuinely like, bin anything you're not fussed about, rather than going too much on size. I came very close to binning a load of old stuff in small sizes before my last pregnancy- I was a 16 at the time and the stuff was a 10 and, even though I loved it, I really couldn't imagine fitting into it- the things looked like children's clothes to me ?

I'm now so pleased that I didn't chuck it away as it all fits again. It's very inspiring, weight loss-wise, to be able to think, "ooh, I haven't worn these jeans since 1998" ?- it's like getting a whole new wardrobe, only for free (and you never know, stuff might have come back into fashion ?). Bin things that you were never that keen on but keep anything you care about, even if it's tiny- to do otherwise is a bit depressing and negative.

(Obviously if you're happy as you are and don't want to lose weight, just bin it all.)

I am not happy as I am but being realistic I know it is very unlikely I will get back in the clothes again until I am done sprogging, partly because of the size I need to get down to and the fact my motivation isn't great at the best of times and at the moment slimming is quite far down my list of 'things I need to get done'. Am very impressed you managed to get down from a 16 to a 10 though post G! Did you find that your shape has changed after having babies? That is the other thing I thought as some of the things that used to suit me just don't seem to suit as well now and I am sure it is because my shape has changed as well as being heavier.

I kept a load of clothes which were too small for me, mainly expensive jeans, etc. Just as well I did, as I eventually lost the weight, and wouldn't have had any clothes that fitted! I'm just about to get rid of the stuff that's too big for me.

My shape has definitely changed- pre-weight gain, I had a v slim waist in proportion to hips and boobs (38,24,38). Now, after gaining and losing weight quite a lot of weight and having two kids I'm much more up and down- (38,28,38). I don't think I'll ever get back to what I was- am just thicker round the middle and always will be. I've also lost my flat tummy- the muscle tone has come back but it's underneath some fairly shar pei-like skin ? . Obviously this means that some of my old stuff no longer suits me- low rise jeans can only be worn with super-long tops and so on ?

Some of my things actually fit me better now- I used to have to buy jeans that were miles too big on the waist in order to fit them over my arse, then belt them in. Now arse and waist are more normally proportioned.

It's really hard to motivate yourself to lose weight if you think you might get pregnant again, or that was my experience anyway. It seemed pointless to work hard at losing weight if I was just going to put it all on again (I know some people manage not to gain excess weight when pregnant but I was laways massive, sadly).

I have a dress in my wardrobe that I love and I held onto it for years because I couldn't bear to get rid of it. Now, I actually fit into it and it was an amazing feeling to put it on for the first time and realise how much weight I had lost. However, I wouldn't have kept heaps of things to slim into because I don't have a lot of space for clothes and would rather have an excuse to go and splurge on new clothes once I was slim and could see what actually suited my body shape.

Unfortunately due to illness my weight tends to go up and down like a yoyo so i have to keep clothes up to 2 sizes too big and 2 sizes too small, its slightly annoying but needed. I wouldn't keep anything too small if i knew i'd struggle to be that size again x

I keep stuff. I have just taken the tags off some trousers I bought in Next sale 3 years ago ? They were sooo small when I bought them but I knew they'd fit once I was back to 9st. Unfortunately it just took me rather a long time to get there ?

I have lots of things in my wardrobe that are too small and have never been worn. I don't want to get rid of them but I know I should. They were bought when I'd lost a bit of weight and thought I might lose some more, but instead put back on what I'd lost ?
