    Hi Ya

I've dones loads of different things for both the pre reception and pre evening reception times, some ideas are

Pop Quiz - one wedding was a music theme so we put together a quiz which I called out with clippits of their favourite bands etc and asked questions about it. You can do the same thing but just asking questions that people might know about the two of you.

A treasure hunt. This was for the children mainly but all the adults joined in. We hid loads of giant bars of chocolates around the large gardens. You could do it so they collect items eg stars and the person with the most wins a bottle of bubbly.

You can get giant games in - I usully pay about £135-£160 for four different games

You can get a magician to go round all the guests, but it's not a cheap option.

Musicians? Saxophonist, guitarist, ceilih (sp) band, steel drum band - any for of live music always goes down well.

Maybe look at getting an entertainer of somesort, it could be anything from a belly dancer to a fireeater. If you approached someone busking who is doing something amazing you could ask if they would be interested in performing for an hour. £30 - £50 for an hour to them would be great no doubt but not much to your budget. At my wedding I did today, we surprised the groom by having to fire dancers in the evening, It looked amazing and was a real talking point!

With regard to the photo boards, try getting photos from all the people who are attending who have been married of their wedding day and put together a collage of the photos. Especially from the 60s to the 80's. People then have to guess who they think each couple is.

Hope that's given you some ideas. It's all very well thinking, people just stand around and chat for an hour, but some people might be by themselves as a couple and don't know anyone. People don't really start mingling until they are sat on a table together so to do something to help entertain them is a brilliant idea.

After the ceremony we had a drinks reception with nibbles. Everyone just mingled. Your guests will be getting called for photographs anyway, won't they?

Provided the gap between ceremony ending and meal served is no longer than 3 hours, i would imagine that your guests will be content to catch up with family and friends.

We did have goody bags made up to keep the younger ones happy though.
