Koh Samui (Thailand) or Bali for Honeymoon??

Whitey2b, 25 of August of 2011 at 18:11 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 0 10

We get married on 2nd June 2012 and we can't decided out of the above for our Honeymoon - both look amazing - both have good weather in June but we really can't decide.

We are looking for a fabulous hotel with spa and great beaches but then the option of day trips etc if we want them - food wise we have been advised that in both Koh Samui and Bail there is no point going All Inclusive as food is so good and cheap outside of resort....can anyone advise please : ))))

Also if we went to Thailand we would have a couple of nights in Bangkok and Bail we would do a couple of nights in Singapore?? Thoughts much appreciated!

Hi Whitey! We're just looking at honeymoons for July next year and think we have chosen Thailand, although considered Bali. We've been speaking to Audley Travel who have been fantastic. Going to see Trail Finders too as they have been recommended to me several times.

Anyway, from what I've learnt, Bali will have better weather but is more expensive due to the longer flights. Thailand's Gulf and east coast will be better than the west, so Koh Samui should still be good weather.

I think we're looking at the Rasananda resort on Koh Phanghan and Zazen on Koh Samui, but then we're taking the option to go to Bangkok and also Koh Sok (a national park) too. The Rasananda sounds perfect as it's secluded but then has a few restaurant nearby too and the option to explore the island a little too (e.g. free kayaks). It's the same island as the monthly full moon parties if you're into that, although it's not on whilst we're there.

Also, I've been to Singapore for 3 nights and it was amazing (loved the night zoo if you get a chance), although quite expensive. I much preferred Kuala Lumpur as it is better value for money and a bit more character. Bangkok seems fairly cheap, although I've not met anyone who's raved about it yet so we'll see!

Hope that helps Smiley smile x

I went to Koh Samui about 10yrs ago now - it was lovely. I don't know if it's still the same, but we stayed at Peace Bungalows and had the honeymoon lodge (hilarious since it was a girly trip with my Mum) right on the beach. Laid back luxury but not OTT, so depends what you're after. I also loved Bangkok but we spent about 4 days there so we could get out and see the sights outside the city as well as nearby (the floating markets, for example, are a 2hr bus ride away). I'd definitely agree with not going all-inclusive. You'd miss out on exploring local restaurants and always feel you had to be back by a certain time.

    Hi Whitey,

Im having my honeymoon the first two weeks of June 2012 as getting married in May. We looked into both Thailand and Bali, I have been to Thailand 3 times and would go again as I love it so much, very cheap out there and you can get great hotels for little money. Having said that, we did decide on Bali in the end, luckily my brother works for Premier Travel/holidays which specialise in far away travel and he has been to pretty much most places so he was able to weigh up the pros and cons for us and he said there will always been the chance of rain that time of year so seeing as we have been before we decided Bali would be better for us.

Not sure what you are into but if you like doing things then look up elephanthills in thailand, this looks amazing and not many people have been there yet plus if your doing Thailand I would say Bangkok is a must really. If you went to elephant hills then I would twin it with Phuket to keep down the travelling.

At Bali I dont think there are as many excursions but you are pretty much guarenteed hot weather, we are twinning it with Kuala Lumpar as there will be plenty to see there so we get the best of both worlds.

Let us know what you decide on!

    Hi Whitey,

I spent 2 months in Thailand travelling around a few years ago and have also visited Bali so I would say Bali is better for lots of nightlife but Thailand is better for a more exotic experience.

    Hi Whitey2b,

I would recommend Koh Samui. I've been to the island three times, the last trip I had was in April. I love it. And my hubby loves it. There are plenty of things to do if you don't feel like lazing down at the pool all the time. Many companies organize tours and excursions around Samui and neighbouring islands.. snorkeling, diving, kayaking.. There are great fine dine restaurants and thai eateries as well in Samui. Last time we were there, we wanted to treat ourselves and therefore stayed in Sareeraya Villas & Suites. The Hotel is corgeous, you can check their websites at www.sareeraya.com. Amazing service, nice design and spacious rooms. They also have a nice spa there. It was a true luxury for us, exactly what we were looking for. AND, it is located only 10 minutes from the center of chaweng, where you can find all the shops, bars and restaurants.. You don't need to think of bargaining with the taxis everytime you go out, as everything is within easy reach. There are plenty of Hotels to stay in, however, most of the luxurious ones are located in quite remote areas. In June the weather in Samui is very hot, so be prepared!

When I was thinking of getting a vacation than first thing came in my mind was Thailand, I heard a lot about it from the people and I love to go there. They have wonderful beaches, hotel, house villas which are just perfect for living in there.. If you will go there once I bet that you going to love it.
