Lace bolero with lace dress...too much lace?

ShropshireLass, 8 February, 2014 at 15:39 Posted on Planning 0 8

Afternoon Smiley smile

I am starting to have serious dress wobbles...to the point of getting really upset over it last night and searching online for a preloved alternative!! I keep looking at the pictures my sister took at my fitting, and I just see a really frumpy looking bride. I accidently came across a pic of me in another dress from when I first started looking (thought I had deleted them all) and it just looks so much nicer on. I can't actually remember why I discounted it now...

Anyway, the point of my post...i tried my dress on originally without the capped sleeves (although they did put one on for a couple of mins to show me) and loved it. When I went in for fitting I tried it with the capped sleeves and belt and thought I loved it more, until looking at the photos. Now I think I'd prefer sleeveless without belt but wear a l/sleeve lace bolero (pref keyhole) with it for the church ceremony & daytime and then bolero off but add the belt for the evening do.

Is lace with lace too much? Any ideas where I can get a lace bolero to go with the dress? Have included a flash of dress with sleeves & belt and also without.

Also, really need a tan! My skin looks so much better on second pic!!!

Your dress is gorgeous with the cap sleeves. It looks stunning on you and take it from an expert (someone who has watched 4 seasons of Say Yes to the Dress on Netflix in the last fortnight, ie me) once it is fitted your wobbles will melt away. What a difference it will make.

I really like it with cap sleeves and belt.

I think it would be really difficult to find the right lace to match if you were going for a bolero. But maybe if you took your dress in to a few bridal shops they could help you match.

    however...

    1) you absolutely do not look like a frumpy bride, that dress looks absolutely gorgeous on you. The belt is perfect the cap sleeves are stunning. Love love love this dress, I just wish I had your figure to pull it off.

    2) you will have better fitting underwear on the day which should make you feel even more slim, I look back to my dress fitting and remember wearing an awful fitting bra and the biggest Bridget jones pants ever.

    3) personally wouldn't go sleeveless. But how about having them turned in to detachable sleeves that way you can make your mind up on the day...Orr keep them on for the day and take them off in the evening.

Both pics look lovely!! I too think it could be hard to match up the lace. Don't think u need a bolero. I love the cap sleeve but also love without. I really, really like it with the belt. It is so pretty and draws attention to your small waist....def not frumpy, ha ha! Don't worry. :-)

Too much lace Nooo wayyy!! I like the belt and cap sleeves..but I would say that I had loads of lace, I had a 1/4 sleeve bolero( which I took off in the evening), lace dress and Chantilly lace finger tip veil! It went so well and I bought the bolero before I tried it on and it all looked lovely, if I don't say so myself!

If you like it go for it

Thank you for all your replies Smiley smile You have all made me feel a little better...I've stopped looking at preloved for now!

I think I'm wobbling because the dress was too big, it had been pinned so didn't give me the shape I wanted. I saw someone on rock my wedding in the same dress and she had it really fitted and it looked amazing on her! We'll see how it goes at my second fitting!

Cherrybloom, you looked absolutely beautiful in your dress! I'm inclined to agree about no such thing as too much lace!! You really pulled it off...not sure if I could though!!

I'm going to try and get a bolero, even just to have as a 'just in case'. I quite like the idea of 2 different looks in one dress. The sleeves are detachable, as is the belt. I'm just going to try out different looks, adding and taking away and see what looks best!

    Thanks again! Smiley smile
