lamb

laraluv42, 13 April, 2008 at 08:55 Posted on Planning 0 14

Arghhhhhh, we were thinking of choosing lamb for the main course of our wedding breakfast. But my mother has just informed me that she HATES lamb and thinks its an awful idea as no-one will like it (strangely..... we always used to eat lamb at home when I was little, so I'm not sure where this sudden dislike has come from).
I've asked her who else specifically doesn't like it, but shes unable to tell me!

She suggested we have chicken instead. Now I don't know what to think really. Chicken or lamb?

I personally would opt for chicken, but some people only eat white meat, is there any chance you can ask the people you hav invited or leave it till the day so they can choose if you would rather not ask?

I've asked a few people so far (about 5 of my friends) & they've chosen the lamb option. But maybe I need to do a larger survey?

We can only have one option in our venue unfortunately, so have to choose beforehand. But if anyone doesnt like it they can always have the vegetarian option I suppose.

Theres bound to be someone who doesnt like chicken as well!

I love lamb and we had the same prob, lamb is my fav, but Mom doesn't like it, in the end we went for turkey, lamb can be quite strong and fatty so decided not to risk it, turkeys always the same.......boring i know!!! Unless of course your getting married in wales and wnt to use local produce....................

Whatever you go for there will be somebody who won't like some aspect of it so if I were you I'd go with the lamb. It is your day.

If your mum really dislikes lamb, could she have a veggie option instead?

I feel your pain. Choosing food is so difficult.

Ultimately I'd go for something that you and H2B like. You wont be able to please everyone.

FIL2B has said no to all of our options apart from a cassoulet which I am not having for a summer wedding just because he's got false teeth ?

    Update:

Asked a load more of my friends - 5, all said chicken (but another 4 that I asked before had said lamb)

H2B has asked some of his - all say lamb.

I think overall more people tend to dislike lamb than those that dislike chicken. I'm willing to consider chicken as a 'please
all' option. But H2B really wants the lamb & thinks chicken is boring.

Still stuck! everyone I've spoken to seems to think we should do something different.

I agree. Chicken is boring but if it feeds everyone then maybe its the best option.

I personally love lamb but it can be very fatty and ny OH wouldn't touch it, my dad also hates it but my mum loves it. So I would say it's a controversial choice unlike chicken or beef.

I'd say go with what you want - it is your wedding, but if you can give people a second (e.g. vegetarian) option then do so. Then those who don't eat lamb can go veggie. If you can put the option in your invites, then it shouldn't be a problem on your big day.

I can't eat lamb it makes me very poorly, but I love it, my mum on the other hand can't stand it. We are having hog roast and a lamb roast as well as veggie option at ours and my SIL had lamb at hers and it went down very well, just make sure you have a nice veggie option and people who don;t like lamb can order that instead, I did and I didn't feel left out at all.
It's your day, make sure you have food that you will enjoy.

Oooh toughie! we are having a similar dilemma and i have urged h2b to make his decision based on what HE loves - if you and h2b love lamb, i say choose lamb. thats easy for me to say as i am veggie, but if anyone doesn't like the chosen meat, they can opt for the veggie option. tbh a few of my family members tend to do this anyway as they are fussy!!

I love lamb, but my H hates it.
We had turkey, and lots of people sad it was delicious. Ours was a winter package though and there was only tukey (xmas dinner), chicken or beef (at a £3 pp suplement which we didn't think we could justify overall on our budget)

My sister had pork, as she didn't want 'boring' chicken. I enjoyed it but some people said they weren't keen and they had preferred my meal. But then again, my sister and her H liked it so they were happy.
