I've tried on a few dresses now and have found one that I LOVE!!! The dress is £800 and although this is achievable (if I save like mad!!) my mum says that I'm crazy to spend this much on a dress when I could get a "similar" one at a fraction of the cost by ordering it online through a chinese...

I've tried on a few dresses now and have found one that I LOVE!!! The dress is £800 and although this is achievable (if I save like mad!!) my mum says that I'm crazy to spend this much on a dress when I could get a "similar" one at a fraction of the cost by ordering it online through a chinese manufacturer. I know there are a few companies (ebay???) that can make your dress to order.

I've also heard people talk about the company "Landy". Has anyone used them and what did you think of your dresses???

If you see a design you like (I want Madeline Gardner "Emogene") or something very similar, can they make from pictures that you provide?

Any input would be lovely girls, please flash if you've got your dress!!!

I seriously considered buying my dress direct from china, and did loads of research on different companies. The one i was going to go with was Milly Bridal, which hasn't been mentioned on here yet. In the end, I chanced accross the same dress going second hand on ebay. Given a choice, I would rather by a genuine dress second hand, but I can see why this would not appeal to some people.

Its clear that sometimes buying direct from china pays off, but you have to accept it is a risk. You might get a bargin, you might end up wasting £170 on a dress which is unwearable.

I have looked into this but unfortuantely I can't find anything similar to my dress; it's a Victoria Jane by Ronald Joyce dress.

I will however, having read the reviews and thought long and hard about it, that I will get my BM dresses from Landy Bridal as I have seen a great copy of a Dessy dress which all of my BM's love. It comes in at roughly £80 per dress. I have told the lady at my wedding shop that I am thinking of doing thsi and they have said they don't mind making alterations as necessary.

Ithink it's down to personal preference. TBH on your wedding day who is going to come upto you and say 'oh my god your dress is a copy'. I don't personally think there is any difference.

All you 'china dress' girlies look stunning x

    Fascinating post.

I'm more inclined to agree with tahdah and PG. Many of the China dresses I've seen flashed have looked like a much cheaper equivalent, presumably because of the material used, to the 'real' dresses. This has nothing to do with the model in the pictures, just the quality of the gown itself. I'm also keen to support our own economy first and foremost, and my dress is being made for me in this country.

I realise that people have very different budgets and requirements from their dresses and so buying from China suits some.

    ???

Well as many of yo know i did get a dress from one of these sites and was dissapointed. It was different from the picture, needed alterations to amend this. The material was not very nice on the one i orderd tbh... It was nice and weighty but felt rough to the touch, it had a chiffon layer. It had a poor finish and somehow they managed to catch a lot of red ( i assume tacking thread) under the chiffon layer. The quality just wasnt there. My MIL2B is a seemstress and she was not impressed with the finished product at all.

As i hadnt been dress shopping before hand i had no idea how much the quality would differ. The dress i have chosen looks amazing imo, feels wonderful and soft to the touch. Material is so much better. My new dress also has a chiffon/voil type layer on.

The dress i have now is out of season and was on sale for £400, so not that much more than a China Dress.

But many other brides have been very happy with their purchases. So maybe i was just unlucky.

Does anyone know when wedding dresses tend to go into the sale? I've seen a few designs that I love this season, and baring in mind how much time I have, I may be able to get one of them in the sale.

I've seen quite a few summer dresses on sale now, must be because people have already bought for their weddings this summer?

I was considering going down the China route but after seeing my friend's dress I just dont think so. It was so badly fitted and didnt look nice at all (eep feel awful writing that). I'll be hitting the sales - here in West Yorks there is a shop in Wakefield doing all sale dresses for under £500 woop!

Another thing about getting a dress from China is you dont get to go shopping and trying loads on. Which is going to be my favourite thing!

    Hi Lauren,

I love the Mark Lesley Eve dress and think I am going to order it but the idea of ordering it from Landy sounds great. Could you please send me some photos?

    Thanks

    Jamie

I got my dress from Yourbridalwear.com. It is absolutely incredible. I couldn't decide between two different dresses so sent Ann a picture and asked if the two designs could be combined. It is like they read my mind. It is exactly how I was imagining it in my head although I accepted that it probably wouldn't be 100% perfect as they were only going off a picture I had cut and pasted together on 'paint'. However it is 110% perfect! The fabrics are beautiful (although I admit I am no fabric expert) The beading is exquisite and it fits perfectly.

I am soooooo happy I came across their website. I have saved over £700 and it is truly the most amazing thing I have ever seen. I haven't stopped smiling since it arrived.

I was just reading your post and like most of us we fall in love with the dress which costs an arm and a leg, at the end of the day though, its your big day so not splash out. I too was looking at dresses and god the prices were just silly. I new it was a long shot but i looked at the trusty ebay lol. I was totally shocked, i have already got my dress from this brill lady, it cost me £62, i kid you not it is stunning, and brand new. It really is as stunning in the flesh as it is in the picture. So its worth looking about 1st, you might even see the dress on there that you have in mind and can always get in contact with the people to see if they make on request the dress that you want.

    Hiya

I have just received my order from Landy. I purchased just one of my bridesmaids dresses to see what the workmanship is like. I must say it is of very good quality. I will definately order the other bridesmaid dresses from them in the near future, and yes they made the dress from a picture I sent them which was very impressive and the sourced the colours and material that I wanted.

My advise to you would be to get your dress here in the UK. Personally that is what I have done. Use the money saved on the bridesmaid and put it on another part of your wedding. The day is about you and you want it stress and worry free and the re-assurance that you are getting what you want with no surprises. To have all that is money well spent in my opinion.

My sister bought one bridesmaids dress from ebay to check quality and dress was good quality but then she ordered a few more and quality was superb but colour slightly different and she had to sent them back. luckily she found this lady in Kent she did have sample dresses to see quality which was very good so my sister ordered made to measure dresses from her . it took less than month to make them they delivered it very fast all fitted perfectly no alterations !!! (that cost a fortune I had to pay £70 last year for bridesmaid dress for my friends wedding rip off and the dress cost about £200 luckily I did not pay for the dress ) any way I am getting married in September and my order is in already!!!! I will have my dress made to measure definitely, and bridesmaid dresses. The lady told me to order bridesmaid dresses 3 or 4 months before wedding so I don't have to spend more money on alterations and flower girl dresses 2 months before apparently kids growing fast Smiley smile oh one more thing when I had my measurements taken they show me wedding shoes catalogue when you can design your wedding shoes the way you want and they will do fitting for you too , so I done it and I love it, and the best thing !!! wedding dress petticoat, veil and the wedding shoes cost me £420

trust me I am not a rich and I know my budget is tight so I am always looking for some savings and I know my sister saved a loads of money buying from them and dresses was beautiful and this lady was a life saver.

I don't know the website but you can find her on Facebook look for Akoya Bridal

good luck to all brides to be
