Let down by hair and make up artist!

Rosie, 29 August, 2024 at 11:35 Posted on Beauty & Wellbeing 1 2
Hi everyone,
I’ve got a dilemma with the hair and make up artist that i booked.
I paid a deposit and had a hair and make up trial (included one style of make up and hair) then was told i need to go and buy hair extensions and to contact her when they arrive. They arrived and i messaged her but got no response. She replied the following day offering me a day the following week which i accepted and i asked for a time as it was 4 days before the wedding (i have a lot to do!!). She didn’t respond so i messaged and called. Eventually she said she was with a bride and would contact me later…..she never did! That was over a week ago! Today is supposed to be my second hair trial and despite calling and messaging on both wattsapp and imessage (basically begging her to give me a time) there’s still no response! With only 4 days to go until the big day i have had to make the decision to book someone else. I have paid a deposit and paid for the hair and make up trial.Do you all think i have the right to ask for my money back?

    Hello,

Deposit: Typically, deposits are non-refundable, as they secure your booking and the artist's availability. However, since the artist has failed to fulfill her obligations (such as communication and providing the agreed services), you might have grounds to request a refund for at least part of the deposit. Hair and Makeup Trial: Since the trial was provided, you are not likely entitled to a refund for this portion unless the service was unsatisfactory or incomplete.

    What You Can Do:

Review the Contract: Check the terms and conditions you agreed to when booking the artist. Look for any clauses related to refunds, cancellations, or unfulfilled obligations.

You definitely have the right to ask for your money back, especially since the communication has been poor and you’ve made several attempts to reach her. It's very unprofessional to leave you in the lurch so close to your wedding day.

Start by politely requesting a refund for the deposit, explaining the situation clearly. If she refuses, you could mention the possibility of taking it further through a complaint with her professional association (if applicable) or even small claims court, depending on the amount.

You’ve been more than patient, and it’s reasonable to want your deposit returned when you’ve had no service provided. Good luck, and I hope your new artist is great!
