Lillies?

The ones in your photo are oriental lilies which aren't a 'funeral' lily as such. The lily normally associated with funerals is the longiflorum lily which is the trumpet shaped one although these are also popular for weddings. Generally speaking these days, the view that lilies are for funerals is pretty much an outdated one as lilies, especially the calla lily, has been the top favourite flower for weddings for nearly ten years. If you like them then they are a beautiful and long lasting flower for weddings and come in a huge range of colours. There is only one slight problem in that the stamen in the centre of the flower (the brown bits) do stain very badly but most florists automatically remove these for wedding work to avoid any accidents. This can lessen the fragrance in some of the varieties such as the stargazer which is the pink stripey one.

In reality, although some people do associate lilies with funerals, the most popular flower for funerals tends to be the red rose which signifies love. Very few people these days are prepared to pay lily prices for a funeral tribute because they are so expensive.

Lillies are often used in wedding flower arrangements so I think you'd be just fine having them. I can't have them because the scent they give off gives me a headache and makes me nauseas. Be careful of the pollen - it can stain. Lots of florists will remove them for you. My sister had calla lillies which were quite nice.
