Lindos, Rhodes - Greek wedding planners

katie_81, 23 September, 2008 at 15:13 Posted on Planning 0 18

HI,

we are thinking of getting wed in Lindos on Rhodes next May (2009).

We have never been there and although we have heard that it is nice I am a bit concerned that it might be really touristy and that there might be loads of weddings going on the same day as ours!

Has anyone got married in Lindos or is anyone planning to get married there? If so, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

We are looking into a company called Exquisite Lindos at the moment - who have so far been really helpful but it would be great to hear from anyone who has dealt wih them before.

Thanks and good luck with your planning ladies!

Would that be at St Pauls bay?

I didnt get married there but did spend a day at the beach (Aug 07) that is next to the chapel and saw plenty of weddings going on, it might be a bit less busy in May.

If you are looking for somewhere a little more exclusive then it might not be for you.

St Pauls is very pretty though.

Lindos is really nice but can get very busy. It seems to be a fav for day trippers staying in other parts of Rhodes.

Lots of couples go there and we didnt see groups of teenagers - they tend to stay in Faliraki.

We spent every evening eating out in Lindos.

Did u enjoy your holiday there - would you go back?

our idea was to have an informal wedding reception at a restaurant in Lindos - were there any that you would reccomend?

    Thanks for your help!

It was a good holiday but I probably wouldnt go back as there are so many other places in the world to go to.

Sorry cant rec any as I remember them all being small roof top restaurants and I dont know if they would be suitable.

    HI

I stayed in the next village along - Pefkos in June this year. We passed St Pauls bay on a boat trip and it does look beautiful. However we got the feeling there are a lot of weddings there and often a few each day.

Lindos itself is nice, we only went in for one evening. It was very busy but very charming with little lanes. It is really just full of tourist shops, bars and restaurants. There was a wide variety of people in the town but it did include a few hen/stag parties and large groups of people.

    Splodgie

Edited to say that sounded more negative than I intended when I wrote it. It is a lovely place.

    Hi,

Thanks for your post - I just saw your extra sentence on the end! Despite that I think I am getting the general impression that Lindos might be too touristy and that there will be a steady line of brides outside the chapel and i would rather choose somewhere else to get married now! However I think it sounds like a lovely place to go on holiday to!

    Hiya katie,

I got married in Lindos last August. We used Lindos Weddings who are fantastic, I really cant recommend them enough. Karen and Laurence live the winter months in the UK and then live in Rhodes from about April to October so you get to meet them here for a consultation and then out in Rhodes they know all the best people! The UK consulation really put our minds at ease and we spent a good couple of hours with Karen going through pictures and dvds of what was available and if there was anything extra we wanted they found out if we could have it.

Our wedding was brilliant, couldnt fault a thing. We got married at St Paul's bay in August at 6.30pm and the setting was beautiful and the time of evening perfect because it was cooling down and when the ceremony was finished we had a boat cruise which ended up being for the sun setting. There are loads of optional extras that you can have, we had pretty much everything and went all out, but even with our 2 week holiday and dress it still came in at around £5K. Also have to have a special mention for their photographer Christos... absolutely fab man and very funny. We had the all day package and also the videographer and it was well worth it. We got something like 350 photos on a CD with copyright and 90 of them printed off before we left in the photo shop he uses with his wife and also Lindos Weddings.

Any questions, please feel free to message me and ask away. I cant stop gushing about it even now... and FWIW we found Lindos the perfect place to get married, true it does get very busy at time in the day but it depends what you want, and if you're anything like us, we used the beach and town at the times we knew werent so crowded (around lunch time).

Hi, our original plan was to get married in Lindos as we go there every year. It quietens down in the evening once the boat trips have left, so I'd say get married late on in the day.

St Pauls bay is amazing, but there are a lot of weddings there so not very exclusive.

Ambrosia's (if its still there!) Is a beautiful restaurant which is a bit upmarket but great food. If not, Stefano's is a nice "greek" restaurant.

Oh, and the weddings at St Pauls Bay tend to be queued, so there is often a wedding before you and a wedding after so the time you have at the chapel is restricted.

I've also seen bridal parties waiting at the top of the bank (which you have to walk down to get to the chapel) to wait for the previous ceremony to finish.

    Hi,

    Thanks for your message!

sounds like you had a a beautiful wedding day!

I am hearing a lot of good things about Karen and Laurence at Lindos Weddings. They sound ideal especially as our budget is 5K.

How many guests did you have? And where did you have your reception?

    Thanks for all the advice!

I have been to Lindos 4 times now and still love it. We were there in May this year and I have been a bridesmaid to my best friend who got married at St Pauls.

What would you like to know?

    Hi!

    thanks for your message!

well, where do i start with the questions?

Which wedding planners did your friend use to get married and how did she rate their service?

were there many other weddings talking place at St Pauls that day that you saw?

Where was the reception held and what was it like?

Which restaurants would you reccommend from your experience of Lindos for a reception?

What is it like in May? Is it quieter? What is the weather like?

I have so many questions but I dont want to bombard you with too many!

    thanks for your help!!

Ok let me try and help you the best I can.

Which wedding planners did your friend use to get married and how did she rate their service?

I can't remember the exact name but have just emailed her so will await till she comes back and tells me but they were excellent.

were there many other weddings talking place at St Pauls that day that you saw?

Ok St Pauls is very, very, very busy!! My friend got married in August 2007 and she was one of 14 weddings on the day (Thursday!) We were there in May for two weeks and saw at least 2/3 weddings everyday. Obviously July/Aug/Sept is the busiest part and to be honest, too hot to enjoy. May is a perfect time to go but still very busy for weddings.

Where was the reception held and what was it like?

She had her reception at the hotel we all stayed in Lindos Memories.

Which restaurants would you reccommend from your experience of Lindos for a reception?

We love Ambrosia, we got 2/3 times everytime we got but its not cheap. It feels so special and you don't get all the tourists in there in shorts and stuff. Much more of a dresser, high class place.

What is it like in May? Is it quieter? What is the weather like?

Weather is fab and we would only go in May. It is much quieter than August but do remember that Lindos is never quiet as they have between 8-20 coach loads of people visit everyday from all around the island so the gorgeous tranquil walkways become packed, sweaty and very busy!

Ask as many questions as you like, I could go on all day ? and hey if you need a photographer I'd love to cover it for you!

Email me for some pictures if you like that we have taken in Lindos ****@**************.**.**

    Hi Lou,

Thanks so much for all the info!!

I'm really in 2 minds about getting married in Lindos now after reading everyone's comments - we would love to visit the village as it sounds stunning but we would like to get married somewhere less busy. Instead of St Pauls we are considering hiring a villa for the ceremony and reception which would give us the best of both worlds! If we do decide on that option we would definately consider your services as photographer!

    Thanks again,

    Kate x

    Hi Katie,

sorry I only just got back on here to see if you asked any questions.

Yes, it is true that it can be a busy place but I do think planning has got a lot to do with it tbh. We arrived in Lindos a week before our wedding and one day we sat on the beach at St Paul's and watched wedding after wedding. I did worry that we would be in this queue system, and to a degree we were, I wont lie. However, Karen did arrange it so that I did not arrive and wait at the top of the hill whilst the previous wedding was going on. I was meant to be picked up from my hotel at 6.20 but she called me at 6 and said she was moving the taxi back 20 mins to give me more time between the 2 weddings. I thought this was actually a really nice touch. It did mean that some of my family were already at the venue when the previous bride and groom were leaving, but they were located at the top of the hill and so they only saw them leaving, no 2 couples are together for the ceremony IYSWIM. I actually think for us that we didnt expect that no one else would want to use this wonderful place and we didnt need 'exclusive' ceremony venue. Lots of places have more than one wedding in one day, I guess it's personal choice but it really wasnt something that bothered me.

I thought that given the time that we would be the last wedding of the day but when we were talking to Karen after the day she said there was another wedding after ours but we honestly did not even see anyone else. I think to be honest we were caught up in our own day and not looking out for other people, we all went on a boat cruise after the ceremony so we were down on the beach and jetty. We also had about 20 mins of photos taken at the chapel after the ceremony so it wasnt rushed at all. And we did our own readings and vows.

I dont think that you will find so many weddings at one time during May either tbh. We married 10th August 2007 so it was very high season.

To answer some of your other questions, we had 35 guests fly out with us and for the meal we asked the wedding team to stay on with us and eat as a thank you. We felt like they were more friends than there purely for business during our stay. So for the meal we had 41 guests.

We had our reception at Odyssea restaurant which is right in the middle of the village. We chose it originally because we wanted a roof terrace but when we went to see it we fell in love with the little stone courtyard as it had a pretty lemon tree over the tables and space for the band and to dance. The food was delicious, and it cost about 30euros per head, wine was extra but worked out cheap (we had a mix of rose and white house wines).

I know that there are loads and loads of places to eat actually in Lindos itself and some of them are quite upmarket from what we were told. Karen did recommend a couple and we chose ours because we wanted real Greek food not necessarily posh food. We chose a menu that consisted of a mixed meze starter served in the middle of the table. It had things like dips, pittas, saganaki, meatballs etc. The main course was a choice of 4 dishes, which guests ordered on the night. They were things like roast greek lamb, chicken souvlaki, a beef one and a veggie one. Dessert was again served in the middle of the table and it was plates of fresh fruit served with ice cream. We then ate the wedding cake later in the evening.

We hired a greek band to play which had a brilliant female singer. They played from 9pm until midnight and got us all up dancing as well which was fun. I will look for some pictures for you.
