Lingerie Shop Recommendations in East Anglia

kelly29, 29 January, 2009 at 12:45 Posted on Planning 0 9

I'm at work at the mo so can't google "lingerie" in case i get some dodgy results!

I lve in Ipswich, which aside from the bridal shops, has a choice of Debenhams or Debenhams, whose ivory lingerie collection is frankly pathetic.

I have my first fitting next weekend so I should really get my lingerie before then. I'm doing bridesmaid stuff all Saturday in Ipswich, but I thought I might be able to nip elsewhere on Sunday to look for something. I'm reluctant to order anything online as I'm between sizes and I don't want the hassle of having to order two or three of everything.

Can anybody recommend somewhere in East Anglia? I'm thinking preferably Colchester or Bury SE, but I could go further if necessary. I'm only looking for a strapless bra and knickers, so nothing complicated, but I obviously want something that will look "special".

Cheers

What about Norwich? You could go to Bravissimo? https://www.bravissimo.com/shops/norwich.aspx

And I'm sure the M&S there is big enough to have a good choice too?

I'm in Norwich, and I struggled with underwear. Bravisimo has opened now, but not been in there. Apart from the usual House of Fraser, Debenhams, Joh Lewis, and the likes there isn't really anywhere to recomend that's different to most towns. I ended up flucking it in TK Maxx, with the right size. But then it wasn't to be under the dress anyway, as no room for a bra or anything.

    Good luck

To be honest I was hoping to avoid Norwich! No prejudice against Norwich, but I've got to go up there for my fitting next Saturday and I didn't really want to go twice in a week.

Unfortunately, I've had to make my fitting appointment quite early in the morning to fit in around my mum, so I won't have the opportunity to shop beforehand (and I don't really want to leave it any more last minute than I already have done!)

Not sure yet whether I'll want a C or a D cup* so I might not be "adequate" for Bravissimo, but House of Fraser or John Lewis should offer me a bigger range than my little Debenhams. The M&S in Ipswich has nothing even vaguely bridal.

Unless anybody can recommend me anything in Colchester or Bury I think I may have to bite the bullet and head to Norwich again.

*Bras seem to vary so much that I no longer have faith in what the label says. I just take a handful of different sizes in with me and go with whichever is the best fit, which is why my bras range between 34C, 34D and 32DD!

It might be an idea to go and get measured for a bra to make sure you're going to be right size on the day. I went into bravissimo thinking I was a D and I'm actually an F. They say if you're wearing the right size you look much better. There's a Bravissimo in Cambridge too.

I measure between a 34C and a 34D! There used to be a Contessa's in Ipswich, and they were wonderful. Debenhams will insist that you are the size that their tape measure says you are, regardless of whether the bra actually fits or not. Thanks to Contessa's, I know exactly how a bra should fit me, which is why I now disregard the label and go with whatever is the best fit!

Damn Theo Paphitis for closing down Contessa's!

I would agree with SS - I was wearing a D cup and then went into Bravissimo and ended up with around an F cup! Everyone mentioned it seemed I'd lost weight when I wore the new ones...

AND they don't actually measure you from what I recall - just get a few for you to try and see how they fit. Different styles will come up different anyhow.. good luck with the search.

Not sure there is much in B St Eds is there?
