Erm, something like Arthur being the love child of Mr Clennam (?) and a dancer type woman, then Mrs Clennam snatched him from his mother's arms and broiught him up as her own. However, Amy Dorrit had some secret past to do with her parentage which I totally missed, so I'd like to know what that was.

As ginni said, Arthur was the result of an affair his father had with a dancer. Mrs Clennam took the child and raised it as her own. Before Arthur's real mother died (of a broken heart) she wrote to Arthur's grandfather to tell him what had happened. He was so horrified by what he read that he changed his will to leave a legacy for a child born in poverty as it was too late to help Arhtur's mother. Amy was born in the Marshalsea on the same day that Arthur's mother died, so she is the beneficiary of the legacy.

    Aaah thank you both.

I loved it and am sorry it's over. I think the BBC do period dramas wonderfully.

I think a new ITV one starts this weekend...The Olde Curiousity Shoppe....

(it might be a repeat having said that as I am sure that this story was done a couple of years ago....)
