Littlewoods vs Very

Nutella, 28 January, 2012 at 11:25 Posted on Planning 0 9

Just been checking out littlewoods and very (amongst others) for potential high st bridesmaid options. Actually came across a few potentials there but I never realised the 2 sites are linked but am horrified that they have exactly the same stock but at different prices!!! Like a good £20 quid difference... they are clearly the same because it's same pictures, descriptions, colours etc.. Just suprised at the difference in price really. Found a lovely dress £85 on littlewoods, exactly the same one on very for £60!!

They are owned by the same company, I have an account with both. Very prices are cheaper but have to be paid over 3 months (Unless you manage to get buy now pay next year) but with littlewoods you can spread it over a longer time think thats why there is the difference in price.

Littlewoods are one of the worse companies I've ever had the displeasure to use. My HTB last year needed a few laptops for a business expansion and even though Littlewoods were more expensive we were not flush so brought them on credit at Littlewoods.

They immediately took all the money, dispite the credit agreement, and all our other debits bounced because of this, mortgage, bills etc. We got a couple of hundred pounds fine from the bank and had to make lots of phonecalls.

Littlewoods apologied, refunded my money (but not the bank charges) One week later they took it all again!

Another complaint, another refund. Then two weeks later they took the credit payment AND the full payment on top! Again lots of bounced bills and bank fines.

I was in tears we were hundreds of pounds down because of the bank fines, plus the mortage company was really giving it to us in the ear, phoning us up.

So we got another refund, then about a month later I went to buy a family take-away and my card was rejected. I had no cash, it was late and we had very little food in the house.

Got back, very hungry and went online to look at our account, it was massively over, because Littlewoods had now taken the full amount TWICE! and it was even the full amounts, not minusing the credit installments we'd paid.

Lots of very angry phonecalls. We couldn't even do the weekly shop because we had nothing to buy it with. Eventually they refunded the money (but again not the bank charges)

In the meantime my HTB got some nice money come in, and even though it was needed elsewhere we just phoned them up, paid it all off, closed the account and my HTB took their catalogue outside into the garden and burnt it.

Awful experience. We lost out a lot of money and damagaed my credit rating. All because they couldn't sort out their own proceedures.

    I'd never touch them again.

I use Very (because they are cheaper)

you have to have an account, but you dont have to take a credit agreement you can pay there and then.

ALSO i bought one of my bridesmaid dresses on the Very outlet shop on Ebay...worth a look as they have some currentt season stuff on there. the teatro dress i bought was £15 rather than the other teatro dress i bought from very (which was very similar but not the same) was £38

Sgreen - sounds like an absolute nightmare. If I buy from there though I'll just pay outright (or on credit card) so shouldn't be an issue for me.

Lurvlyloz - thanks for the heads up about the ebay shop, if my BM's go for one of the dresses I found on these sites then I'll definatley check that out!!

Littlewoods is FAR worse than Very although it is part of the same company. My OH used to work for them years ago. Terrible service, terrible ethos, terrible prices. I would never shop there.

I won't touch Very now. I updated my 'address' in my account after moving jobs and ordered something to be delivered to my new work address, after adding it. I triple checked the order before hitting complete, because I didn't want it to be delivered to the wrong place. They only went and delivered to my old work place, and tried to deliver several times before they gave up. Not once did they try and contact me. I wrote a letter of complaint and never heard a peep back.
