London engagement party venue dilemma

Fifa1, 10 May, 2014 at 11:57 Posted on Planning 0 2

Hi there,

My fiancé and I are planning our engagement party for mid-July. We have a guest list roughly confirmed and would like to book an area for 30-35 people.

Now the venue. Most of us are between late 20's and mid 30's. We want it to be fun with nice, mainstream-ish pop/dance/house music in a venue with a bit of glam, especially nice décor, nice friendly staff and where we won't be likely to witness fighting/too rowdy behaviour from other parties, not so loud music that we cannot hear each other talk and not too expensive or if it is then it's at least worth it...

I know our list of criteria is long... I've thought about Dirty Martini and Mayfair Exchange (worried music will be too loud), Beach Blanket Babylon Shoreditch (apparently rather rude staff and expensive for the sake of it), Golden Bee Old Street (read of some seriously rude staff incidents and the food is just sushi which am not sure most people will like)...

Most pubs I've come across seem too simple (we have guests joining from abroad and we'd like it to be a good first experience of London for them).

Has anyone here had any good (engagement) parties and been impressed with the venue or know of good venues otherwise that meet the criteria above?

ANY tips would be amazing, we only have 2 months to go so need to get a move on, eeek!

Thank yoooou!

My friend had her engagement party at Dirty Martini's but they hired it out and received speciality drinks. But it was nice.

    Crazy bear? http://www.crazybeargroup.co.uk

Amber Bar - love the light up dance floor here (although it may be pretty dead at the weekend) http://amber-bar.co.uk

One of the Grand union chain?

or something a bit different either proud cabaret or circus.

Crazy bear, pullman hotel, one engagement party was a suite opposite st pauls (can't think of the hotel name but it'll show up on google maps), they hired a room that was big enough with the balcony to hold roughly your number of guests it was a bit surreal as it had a bathroom and everything, they just removed the bed and normal hotel room furniture. They had waiters and everything.
