London Reception Venues??? Dry Hire? Or under 10k ?

janiejuju, 20 February, 2011 at 16:32 Posted on Planning 0 32

Hi Ladies,

Desperately trying to find a venue in London for my reception. Preferably dry hire so I can choose the caterers etc.

Looking for something under 5k for dry hire or my budget all in for the venue is 10k including food.

80 day guests, 100 evening.

Central London, zones 1-2.

Any suggestions welcomed I'm all googled out!

It doesn't give prices - you need to call or email - but how about the upper walkway of Tower Bridge?

    https://www.towerbridge.org.uk/TBE/EN/VenueHire/Weddings.htm

"Both venues work very well for either stand-up receptions or sit-down dinners. The Walkways accommodate upto 250 guests for a reception and 120 for dinner. The Victorian Engine Rooms accommodate 120 guests for a reception and 60 for dinner."

It says ceremony only in one of the smaller rooms as £1900.

One of the guys at worked booked that ...said the views were amazing.

Then the lift broke and they decided to close down under health and safety.

They had to move the whole wedding to one of HMS boats further down the Thames.

Not helpfull realy but thought i'd put my two cent's in.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

I had a look though and for my number of guests it was going to be over 10k!

I think you can dry hire the London Waldorf.

I'm there covering a wedding next month and that's a lovely place.

    Hi Janie,

1 Lombard Street Restaurant Bar & Brasserie in the City is perfect. It's right next door to Bank station, they can accomodate your numbers and budget, plus it's a fabulous Grade II-listed former bank, so it's very chic. They are having a wedding show this weekend - no charge - so you can see the flexibility of the venue and get to talk to a handpicked selection of London suppliers as well as sipping complimentary fizz and sampling canapes from their party menu. I think it will be perfect for you. Book your tickets with Elena at **@******.**.**. Good luck!

If you wouldn't mind travelling out into the suburbs a bit, I'd really recommend my venue, the Landmark Arts Centre in Teddington:

We're getting married at Wandsworth Town Hall and bussing people between the two venues. The buses cost an extra £1k, BUT the Landmark is comparatively cheaper to hire than many central London venues when you consider the size you need. It costs £2.5k but you get it on Friday, Saturday and Sunday which means less stressing and you can do some of the decorating yourself to save money.

    Thanks everyone, keep them coming!!!

I did see the Landmark Arts Centre but find it a bit too church like!

Surely there must be some more venues, London is a big place!

We looked at the Landmark and it is beautiful but was a bit too big for us. But for what you get it's great value and a stunning but different location. We have decided on Thames Rowing Club in Putney, we also looked at Putney Rowing Club. They're both lovely venues and obviously right on the Thames and good value for money as you can bring in your own caterers. This place in Battersea also looks amazing http://www.pumphousegallery.org.uk/venuehire/corporate or try local authority websites, as they're are some beautiful government owned buildings that you can usually "dry" hire.

Hope that helps! Good luck with your search

I have a suggestion, I am not sure whether you use their or your own caterer, but this place is well thought of and in a fab location- Greenwich by the river. You can get married there too. I live in Greenwich and if I weren't gettting married up north, I would do it here:

Greenwich is zone 2/3 (it's both as it's on the border) and has good tube, rail and river connections.

    Thanks Vixen.

I did look at the Trafalgar but once I added up all package it was coming in in excess of 13k!

Thanks for your help though :-)

That is a bit pricey! If you fancy venturing out to Bexleyheath, I went to a wedding here and it was lovely- even nicer than the photos in my opinion. I don't know the cost, but I reckon it would be less than the Trafalgar.

The prices are on their website http://www.hallplace.com/hire/weddings/ I know my friends provided the champagne and wine but that they were charged corkage.

    Hi

I looked at Four Seasons Canary Wharf and Grange City Hotel (tower hill), not sure if they do dry hire as it was a long time ago that I looked, but I do remember they seemed "reasonably priced for London" so maybe check them out. Or the HAC between Liverpool St and Old Street

    What about this place:

    http://www.onemarylebone.com/spaces-info.php?id=2

you could hire one of the Galleries for less than 5k.

    I'm beginning to lose hope!

I looked at One Marylebone, however with the costs of security and other additional items it came in over 5k, plus there'd be other events going on at the same time which I was hoping to avoid.

Looks like it's either finish at 11pm or nothing at the moment. I really thought 5k was a reasonable budget for hire only!!

We're finishing at 11pm-ish, all guests have to be out by 11:30pm. To be honest though I'm quite happy with that as we're getting married at 12pm so it will be a LONG day for us!

    Hi janie

    How about this place?

    https://www.trafalgartavern.co.uk/ Greenwich

Its right on the river Thames - an old georgian house pub/restaurant with a magnificent ballroom upstairs (chandeliers) with huge windows overlooking the river. It featured on three Grand Weddings a while ago.

http://www.weddingtv.com/tv-shows/how-to-i-do/1494/three-grand-weddings/ go to Ep1. run along to 14.40 minutes - Trafalgar tavern

Shows a guided tour of the rooms.

oops just seen another fab hitcher has already suggested it! ? Hope the 3 grand wedding link helps you decide

Hope this helps. Let us know how you get on.

I know how expensive it can be, wihch is why I have opted for going back up north for ours. We are hiring a village hall for £275 and buying our own booze and hiring our own caterer. Will be less than £5k.

I googled "london village hall" and came up with this, looks like the same kind of dealey http://www.abneypublichall.com/Untitled.html

http://www.sessionshouse.com/index.html They don't mention weddings on the site, but they do them, and will probably do it at a very, reasonable rate. Speak to Dorien. (he's a guy btw!)

    PK.

We started our venue search with London venues - Shoreditch town hall looked like quite a good option if you want to bring your own caterers, etc. I didn't look at it in detail but found some very cool wedding pics from the venue online. Looked like a good venue for a city wedding.

    Good luck!

We got engaged at and are friends of the Chelsea Physic Gardens (just off King's Road heading towards the River).

They do wedding hire and you can use your own caterers. Big issue maybe safety if you have little ones - they have two ponds and a number of highly poisonous plants (if ingested).

    Hi,

I know it's a bit late for you but for any one else looking Acorn Barn is only 40 mins from Central London and they offer a dry hire wedding venue: http://www.acorn-barn.co.uk/

Price is between £3000 and £4000.

    Good luck!
